STAFF NURSE
Job Description
The Staff Nurse position is a full/part-time, grant-funded position with flexible hours arranged and scheduled by the Director of Nursing. Primary responsibilities include evaluation and monitoring of clients in social setting detoxification, verification of medication, screening and referral of clients presenting with general medical complaints and to provide physician-directed nursing care within the scope of Gibson Center for Behavioral Changes’ service provisions.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Measure and record vital signs and monitor clients in Social Setting Detoxification for signs and symptoms of withdrawal as required by the Department of Mental Health standards and Gibson Center for Behavioral Change Policies and Procedures.
- Notify Director of Nursing concerning need for client referral to medical detoxification or emergency medical care.
- Coordinate/arrange referrals for clients needing medical care while in the residential program.
- Complete quality assurance checks on Department of Mental Health contract and Agency Policies and Procedures regarding compliance relating to medications.
- Educate clients in groups and individually on general medication issues and potential side effects.
- Educate staff, informally and through in-services, on medication procedures; general medication issues; potential side effects and proper verification of medications.
- Observe and record clients’ self-administration of medication(s).
- Record accurate observations concerning status and progress of clients who have been identified as requiring follow up-for medical issues beyond the customary medical screening.
- Confer and provide consultation with health care professionals and behavioral health care professionals.
- Assist staff with medical/clinical functions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be an RN or LPN with one-year experience, licensed in the State of Missouri. Must have two years experience in the field of substance use and mental health treatment with knowledge of chemical withdrawals as well as co-occurring disorders.
