JOB TITLE: CLINICAL INFORMATICS NURSE
DEPARTMENT: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
GENERAL SUMMARY
The position is responsible for assisting the Executive Director of IT and Clinical Informatics in providing continual oversight of electronic improvements/progress and assessment of needs/issues related to the clinical information software to achieve optimum use of GAHHS's Health Information System (HIS) for all GAHHS healthcare facilities as assigned.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Collaborates with Executive Director of IT and Clinical Informatics, nursing and clinic department managers, regarding software system needs, issues and training for clinical staff.
2. Assists in the selection and evaluation of new software applications as applicable and lead training efforts to clinical staff in the use of the system to support patient care.
3. Assists in the timely development of databases, electronic forms, clinical information technology policies and procedures to achieve and maintain compliance with information technology privacy/security and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) requirements.
4. Provides education and training to all clinical staff on the use of the computer software programs, using best practice as a guide.
5. Assess EMR for performance improvement opportunities and implements change as required to fulfill hospital goals and mission.
6. Monitors Meaningful Use data and compliance with the measures and quality data and makes necessary changes or provides education to those who directly impact these results.
7. Serves as liaison between clinical departments, finance and other departments utilizing the hospital software system to assist in the design, development, maintenance and training for assigned clinical and business systems to support the care of the patients and services at GAHHS.
8. Actively participates in continued professional growth by continuing education and involvement in professional organizations.
9. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Medical Staff, department managers, nursing management team/peers.
10. Demonstrates advanced level problem-solving skills, organizational skills and decision making abilities.
11. Demonstrates ability to work effectively with computer software systems, including but not limited to hospital and clinic EMR, Microsoft Office and HealthStream.
12. Attends and participates on committees, task forces and meetings for coordination/facilitation of nursing activities as assigned by Executive Director of IT and Clinical Informatics. Functions as chair of committees as designated.
13. Responsible for adherence to standards and participates in the Joint Commission accreditation process, Illinois Rural Health and IDPH survey activities.
14. Maintains an environment that reflects pride and ownership and a willingness to care for the surroundings.
15. Willing to accept new duties as department growth evolves.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Excellent, visual, hearing, speech/articulation abilities.
2. Emotional stability to deal with prolonged stress of directing staff, coordinating activities and providing positive interaction during times of stress and constant change.
3. Excellent verbal and written skills for high level of communication within the division of nursing and interdisciplinary and administration meetings.
4. Strong intellectual abilities of critical thinking and decision making to assist Executive Director of IT and Clinical Informatics with the division of nursing program, Medical Staff and Multidisciplinary teams.
5. Manual dexterity to use computer to communicate, investigate and educate.
6. Physical strength to perform CPR(bed/floor), lift/push/pull 60-100 pounds (with assistance) as often as 1-2 times per week and perform moderate walking, twisting, turning, and stretching maneuvers in patient care and use of patient care equipment.
7. Work requires ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time (2-3 hours)
8. Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:
a. Floor to Knuckle- 50 pounds
b. 12” to Knuckle- 60 pounds
c. Knuckle to Shoulder- 30 pounds
d. Shoulder to Overhead- 20 pounds
e. Carry- 40 pounds
f. Push- 25 ft/lbs
g. Pull- 25 ft/lbs
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Executive Director of IT and Clinical Informatics.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. RN or LPN license required.
2. Minimum of 3 years experience using an EMR system.
3. Minimum 3 years experience and proven skill in use of computer software (including MS Windows, Word, Excel and other database applications).
4. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in clinical nursing preferred.
5. Knowledge of current health care trends, information technology and current federal, state and regulatory requirements required.
6. Experience with teaching and managing time line projects.
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category I - Maximal Risk – this job exposes you to potential blood, body fluids, and tissues on a routine basis. It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis vaccine.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Sitting at a desk, typing and use of computer, for long periods of time.
2. Will be required to assist with patient care, and be exposed to contagious diseases or infectious materials, but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions and equipment are used.
3. Driving to meetings, educational offerings out of the facility
Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
