What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floor Technician - FT Evenings position at GIBSON AREA HOSPITAL?
HOURS & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS: Regular full time position…3 pm – 11 pm. Must be flexible to work different hours for larger projects. Some weekends may be required.
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Hard Floor technician works under the direction of the Facilities Management Coordinator. Responsible for the general appearance of all hard surface flooring including quarry tile, vinyl composition tile or VCT, sheet vinyl linoleum, painted concrete, and stairways for the entire hospital. The Hard Floor technician also is subject to performing a variety of jobs pertaining to the maintenance of the building and grounds

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner as to reflect the highest integrity of the Facilities Management Department.
2. Performs preventive maintenance on floor care equipment and systems as required.
3 Maintains routine records of all area floor inspections; type of work performed on The flooring; what was accomplished in what specific areas and the date it was Performed.
4. Maintains and utilizes hand tools and power equipment.
5. Is responsible for making minor repairs on floor care equipment.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
7. Will dust mop and wet mop all halls, waiting rooms, stairwells, patient rooms, dining rooms and entrances prior to stripping, application of finishes, waxing or low or high speed buffing.
8. Strip, wax, seal and buff all floors as determined by preventative rotation, season of the year and integrity of floors and their locations.
9. Disposal of general garbage and hazardous waste on a routine basis.
10. Performs manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material).
11. Works day, evening, or night shift as assigned.
12. May require performing emergency duties. Performs others duties as assigned which may not necessarily be job related. May be required to obtain additional training to keep abreast of new products and procedures.
13. Prompt and regular attendance required.
14. Performs grounds maintenance as assigned.
15. Responds to emergency call-in snow removal.
16. Normal working hours (1st Shift) 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the exception of 2 weeks per quarter of 2nd shift wax stripping and re-application of finish duties. 2nd shift duties will accumulate shift premium pay.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Physical requirements may be met with the aid of mechanical devices. They are those minimally necessary for the safe completion of duties. They are not intended to discriminate against handicapped persons, only to insure safe working conditions for all persons.

g. Able to bend, stoop, and lift 60 pound objects.
2. Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks without a mechanical aid:
• Floor to waist - 50 pounds
• 14” to waist - 50 pounds
• Waist to shoulder - 50 pounds
• Shoulder to overhead - 20 pounds
• Carry 50 pounds for 30 feet
• Push 50 pounds/force for 30 feet
• Pull 50 pounds/force for 30 feet
3. Mechanical assistance devices may not be such that they interfere with normal safety aids (modified if necessary) such as safety goggles, hearing protection, etc.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Facilities Management Coordinator.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is desired.
2. Must have maintenance abilities.
3. Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license.
4. Ability to do work on his own without more than the normal supervision.
5. Inspects facility flooring and floor care equipment and maintains same in good order.
6. Ability to perform minor mechanical repairs.
7. A thorough knowledge of how to use and maintain floor care tools and equipment.
8. Knowledge and observation of safety precautions.
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category 2– Minimal Risk - This job may expose you occasionally or in emergency situations to blood, body fluids or tissue. The Hepatitis B vaccine shall be made available.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. May be required to lift weights and carry equipment.
2. May be exposed to disagreeable environmental conditions, including dirt, noise, height, cramped working spaces and areas.
3. Tasks where caution must be exercised to insure safety.
