Role Description The Construction Superintendent is a full-time, on-site role, responsible for overseeing day-to-day field operations on active construction sites. This role schedules and coordinates subcontractors, suppliers, and field staff to keep work on schedule and within budget while maintaining required quality standards. Responsibilities include planning and sequencing work, monitoring progress, enforcing site safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and local regulations. The superintendent will conduct daily site walks, lead toolbox talks, document work activities, and promptly address field issues or conflicts. The role also involves collaborating closely with project managers, inspectors, and clients, preparing and updating site reports, and supporting timely project closeout and turnover.

Qualifications

  • Strong Construction Site Management skills, including coordination of trades, site logistics, and daily field supervision.
  • Proven experience in Construction Safety, with the ability to enforce safety policies, conduct safety meetings, and promote a safety-first culture.
  • Solid Organization Skills to manage schedules, documentation, inspections, and material deliveries efficiently.
  • Budgeting and Project Management skills to support cost control, track progress, and align field work with project milestones.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with field teams, clients, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with construction management software and basic office tools (e.g., email, spreadsheets, digital plans, project management software).
  • Several years of field experience in commercial or public works construction, with prior superintendent or foreperson responsibility preferred.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and inspection processes in the San Francisco Bay Area is beneficial.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR) and a valid driver’s license are preferred.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation throughout the construction process.
  • Monitor the project budget and communicate cost impacts with the project manager.
  • Forecast and provide insights on possible changes that could cause schedule delays or affect budgets.


Requirements:


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction management, with at least two (2) years of experience in a public works environment.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and equipment.
  • Excellent planning, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and standard industry tools such as P6/MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam Revu is strongly preferred.


Work Environment


This job requires the employee to work in an on-site office, an office trailer, and/or in a construction jobsite environment. The conditions regularly include exposure to outdoor elements, hot/cold temperatures, wet conditions, and occasional noise. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, stand, walk, talk or hear and use their hands to feel and handle; frequently reach with hands and arms; occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently lift and or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. The position is project site based and work is performed on location. Project locations within greater Bay Area.
