What are the responsibilities and job description for the Procedure Scheduler - Medical position at GI North?
Description:
- Handles outbound calls daily to schedule procedures and/or clinic appointments.
- Schedules ASC and hospital based medical procedures, for patients with appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropriate scheduling code.
- Effectively utilizes clinical knowledge when determining if appointment is consistent with the diagnosis/indications indicated by the provider.
- Completes accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for procedures and surgeries as needed.
- Provides accurate, detailed information to patients regarding test preparations, time of patients scheduled arrival, and any other directional information needed; takes appropriate action in responding to questions from patients.
- Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed.
- Verifying insurance coverage of each patient scheduled for surgery.
- Explaining coverages to patients and discuss financial responsibility.
- Prioritize incoming authorization requests according to urgency.
- Confirms patient’s insurance provider and obtains prior authorization via payer website or by phone and follow up regularly on pending cases.
- Maintain individual payer files to include up to date requirements needed to successfully obtain authorizations dating patient information/keeping records.
- Confirm accuracy of CPT and ICD-10 diagnoses in the procedure order.
- Contact patients to discuss payments for upcoming procedures and setting up payment plans when needed.
- Assists other members of the department as needed.
- Ability to work at other locations and overtime as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be open to cross training and learning other areas as needed
- High school or equivalent
- Customer service and computer skills: 1 year
- Medical terminology: 1 year
