Main Responsibilities
- Provide primary research and tracking on key energy and policy matters related to renewable energy, storage. independent power producers, decarbonization and utility resource planning and acquisition.
- Monitor, analyze, interpret, communicate and advise on policy issues and actions relating to federal and state legislation and regulatory agencies.
- Assist in development and promotion of policies and legislation that favorably position Geronimo Power in states and RTOs where it is doing business. Perform analyses to evaluate the implications of proposed policy changes on Geronimo Power business
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis to understand market trends and company-specific information related to the topics of clean energy markets, wholesale markets, utility planning, RTO operations and other topics that may arise.
- Lead preparation of materials for policy presentations, legislative briefings, working group meetings and other external parties as directed by management
- Explain technical concepts associated with issues to non-technical audiences
- Develop and submit testimony and comments to regulatory agencies on issues related to energy policy
- Support Head of Policy and RTO Strategy, Regulatory Managers and Market Leads with analysis and materials to address policy and strategic issues in their markets.
- Coordinate with outside organizations and ad hoc coalitions to help insert Geronimo Power policy priorities into larger legislative and regulatory efforts
- Meet with legislators, regulators and other governmental agencies to provide education and advice on policy issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and two years of relevant experience in energy or environmental policy OR Master’s Degree in relevant subject with 0-2 years experience
- Understanding of research sources and principles
- Excellent Written and Oral Communication Skills
- Willingness to work with and manage relationships with lobbyists, legislators and staff
- Ability to work in cross functional teams to develop solutions to complex problems
