**This position is required to be located in Cass County, North Dakota
Position Description
Geronimo Power is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist to provide community relations support for utility-scale solar, wind and hybrid projects. This role will cover all stages of community engagement for development projects, ranging from desktop research and listening sessions through building and maintaining relationships, sponsoring community events, and managing strategic giving.
Duties
- Lead community engagement processes, including:
- Research and understand community and regional sentiment towards utility-scale projects
- Prepare/manage individualized campaign plans for assigned projects
- Represent Geronimo Power to community stakeholders through individual meetings, hosted and sponsored events, and other relevant community-facing opportunities
- Work with development and permitting team members to coordinate a variety of stakeholder outreach activities
- Develop relationships and educate stakeholders as needed throughout development process.
- Monitor regional and local opposition and develop response plans as needed.
- Regularly meet and collaborate with others on the Community Engagement team to provide support, learn from each other, and adopt best practices based on on-the-ground experience.
- Work closely with the Marketing and Communications department to align project communications with Community Engagement project campaigns.
- Work cross-functionally with other departments, including development, permitting, policy, and others to deliver integrated and high-quality community engagement.
- Provide support through project construction and operations to ensure smooth handoff of community relationships.
- Track and schedule community engagement tasks and provide regular updates to manager and project team.
- Assist with preparation and management of project budgets.
- Travel across assigned region, with some travel on short notice. Occasional travel to support other project regions as needed.
- Staff a project office, if applicable, in coordination with the project developer.
- Occasionally travel to the Bloomington, MN company headquarters for trainings, team building and all-company meetings, including the annual company retreat and holiday party.
- This is not a standard Monday-Friday, 8-5 role. Some evenings and weekends will be required to have a presence at community events.
Experience
- Proven collaborator and networking expert, with the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally.
- Minimum of 3 years of community engagement or related experience (including social science, politics, or other public-facing engagement).
- Experience working with external and internal stakeholders to deliver community-level projects.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful/tense situations.
- Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment in both team and individual settings.
- Must be flexible and detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Microsoft programs.
- Up to 30% travel required, occasionally on short notice.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Renewable energy experience.
- Political campaign experience.
Pay Range for the posted level: Minimum of $70, ,000.00
