The Visual Communications Specialist is responsible for maintaining and elevating the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center (GLIIHC) brand through the development of high-quality, visually compelling marketing materials. This role places a strong emphasis on graphic design and visual communication, requiring advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite to create engaging content across digital and print platforms.

The Visual Communications Specialist collaborates with the marketing team, program directors, and coordinators to develop strategic communications that promote GLIIHC services, programs, and events while ensuring consistency in brand identity and culturally appropriate messaging.

ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administers and reinforces communications that are culturally appropriate, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and relevant to the service population
  • Reflects, articulates, and promotes the mission, vision, and identity of GLIIHC in all marketing and communication materials

Design & Creative Development (Primary Focus)
  • Work on the design and production of marketing materials across print and digital platforms using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.)
  • Create visually engaging assets including flyers, brochures, social media graphics, presentations, and event materials
  • Ensure brand consistency and high design standards across all communications
  • Collaborate with internal teams to translate program needs into effective visual communications
  • Support video and multimedia content creation (basic editing, layout, and visual storytelling)

Marketing & Content Execution
  • Assist in the development, execution, and optimization of marketing campaigns across digital, print, email, and social media channels
  • Develop and implement content for websites, newsletters, blogs, and social media
  • Manage social media accounts, including content scheduling, engagement, and performance tracking
  • Create and maintain social media content calendars in coordination with program needs

Program & Event Support
  • Design materials supporting:
  • Medical, Behavioral Health, Dental, and Pharmacy outreach and education
  • ANWC grant and outreach initiatives
  • Annual events including the Red Shawl Gala and Honoring the Heartbeat Powwow
    • Assist in planning and promoting events and community engagement activities
Analytics & Strategy
  • Monitor and analyze marketing performance metrics and adjust strategies as needed
  • Conduct basic market research and analyze audience engagement to inform design and messaging decisions
  • Review reports on marketing performance and provide recommendations for improvement
Collaboration & Support
  • Work closely with internal departments to ensure timely completion of marketing requests
  • Collaborate with external vendors and partners as needed
  • Complete special projects such as rebranding, logo development, and campaign initiatives

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, or a related field required.
A strong design portfolio demonstrating visual communication skills is highly preferred.
Must understand, appreciate, and articulate the mission of GLIIHC and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop required)
  • Strong graphic design skills with the ability to produce high-quality print and digital materials
  • Demonstrated experience in layout, typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging visual content
  • Experience designing for both print and digital platforms
  • Experience with website management (WordPress preferred) and basic understanding of SEO
  • Experience managing professional social media accounts
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs
  • Understanding of culturally responsive and community-centered communication practices

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
Work is performed in an office environment utilizing various office equipment including, but not limited to a computer, copy machine, fax machine, and multi-line phone. Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone, by computer, and in person. Ability to perform well in a fast-paced work environment.
