What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geotechnician position at Geotemps Inc?
About the Job:
The Geological Technician will report to the Exploration Geologist and is responsible for various duties related to cutting, storage, organization and optimization of core samples. The schedule for this position is 15 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 13 days off.
Essential Functions:
- Cut core samples with core saw
- Follow the core cutting requirements as directed by supervisor
- Undertake sample handling in the core yard
- Help with sample storage efforts
- Organize core sample transfer to mine lab
- Prepare and load core sample shipments and associated paperwork for transfer to outside labs
- Prepare and maintain records of assay lab submittal sheets and shipment transfer records
- Other duties as assigned
- The successful candidates will work twelve (12) hours per day, fifteen (15) days on / thirteen (13) days off. Position will be located at the camp during shift rotation
Qualifications:
- Ability to work safe and promote safe behavior in others required
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written required
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a high-pressure work environment required
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment required
- Ability to lift 50 lb core boxes repeatedly required
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time required
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and MSWord) preferred
- Understanding and familiarity with the Kensington Mine underground work areas is preferred
Certifications and Requirements:
- Safety or steel-toed boots- all other PPE such as hard hat, safety vest, ear and eye protection are provided by the client
- Pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Possession of a current Surface 5000-23 MSHA certification or ability to obtain one before commencement of work
