The Coil Lead Preparation Operator is responsible for removing enamel from wire using approved chemicals and established safe work practices. This position requires the ability to work independently in a production environment while handling hazardous materials in accordance with company procedures, safety standards, and environmental requirements. The Acid Cleaner must maintain a high level of attention to safety, quality, and production demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Remove enamel from wire using approved chemicals and established acid-cleaning procedures.
- Handle, use, and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with company policy, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Verify lead lengths and job requirements before performing acid cleaning.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at all times.
- Ensure required PPE is worn and maintained while performing acid-cleaning activities.
- Confirm eyewash stations, exhaust fans, and other required safety controls are accessible, functional, and in use prior to beginning work.
- Work safely from ladders and in tight or confined work areas as required by the job.
- Support production demands by managing time effectively and completing work in a timely manner.
- Understand and follow the workflow of the assigned production area.
- Perform other related duties as assigned in support of production operations.
General Job Requirements / Abilities
The Coil Lead Preparation Operator must be able to:
- Work independently with minimal supervision while following standard operating procedures.
- Read a tape measure accurately.
- Work with both standard and metric measurements.
- Manage time effectively to meet production schedules and output requirements.
- Understand the workflow, priorities, and material movement within the assigned work area.
- Maintain facial hair in compliance with company respirator-fit requirements, including keeping facial hair trimmed or shaved as necessary to ensure a proper respirator seal.
- Wear and maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Verify lead lengths and cleaning requirements prior to performing acid cleaning.
- Work from ladders and perform tasks in tight spaces when required.
- Maintain awareness of surrounding hazards and follow all applicable safety procedures.
Required Training / Knowledge
The Coil Lead Preparation Operator must be trained and/or knowledgeable in the following:
- Hazardous material handling and chemical safety
- Proper use of hazardous materials for lead cleaning / acid-cleaning processes
- Hazardous waste disposal and chemical disposal requirements
- Respiratory protection and PPE requirements
- Emergency response procedures related to chemical exposure, spills, and eyewash use
- Winding legends and where to locate lead-length requirements and work instructions
- Safe ladder use and working in restricted or tight-access areas
Working Conditions
- Exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials
- Use of required PPE, including respiratory protection
- Standing, bending, reaching, and climbing ladders as needed
- Work in a manufacturing environment with production deadlines and safety requirements
Safety Expectations

Pay: From $21.00 per hour
