Job Summary

The Rome-Floyd County Library is seeking a dedicated and reliable Federal Work-Study (FWS) student worker to support the library's Summer Reading Program. This position is ideal for a student who is passionate about promoting literacy, engaging with children and families, and fostering a love of reading throughout the community. A consistent commitment through the summer is preferred to help ensure a positive experience for program participants.

Responsibilities

  • Is responsible to understand, support, and carry out the college's mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies
  • Assist with organizing and facilitating Summer Reading Program activities and events for children, teens, and families
  • Provide support during reading sessions, craft projects, and educational activities
  • Help manage program materials, including books, reading logs, and prizes
  • Foster a welcoming and encouraging environment for young readers and their families
  • Collaborate with library staff to promote summer reading engagement and participation
  • Maintain a consistent and reliable work schedule during the summer months
  • Other duties as assigned to support the Summer Reading Program and related literacy initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience
  • Must be eligible for the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program
  • Currently enrolled for the summer at GHC
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Prior tutoring or mentoring experience is a plus

Proposed Salary

$12.00 per hour,

up to 19 hours per week

  • Knowledge of basic literacy concepts and an interest in promoting reading and learning among children and teens
  • Skill in working with young audiences in a friendly, patient, and supportive manner
  • Skill in assisting with crafts, activities, and group events in an organized and engaging way
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with children, families, and library staff
  • Ability to follow instructions, take initiative, and contribute to a team environment
  • Ability to manage time effectively, stay on task, and maintain reliability in attendance and performance
  • Ability to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that supports the goals of the Summer Reading Program
