Gentry Locke Attorneys is seeking a motivated individual to join our civil litigation team in Richmond. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a litigation paralegal role required; experience in eDiscovery is preferred. This position collaborates directly with multiple attorneys assisting in all aspects of trial and case management, as well as assisting with other administrative tasks. The successful candidate will be an ambitious, organized team player who works well in a fast-paced, client-focused environment. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential. The willingness and ability to learn and expand on current technology skills including versatile cloud apps is required in order to navigate the robust technology package the firm maintains.

  1. Reviews and analyzes cases to assist in preparation of case for trial and/or hearings.
  2. Reviews and analyzes matters for the purpose of preparing evaluations and status reports for clients.
  3. Assists Attorneys by preparing documents such as drafting complaints and answers, routine notices, statements of facts, motions, petitions, and case status reports.
  4. Establishes, organizes, and maintains pleading boards, attorney trial boxes and notebooks, expert witness notebooks, document indexes and lists, as necessary.
  5. Locates and confers with expert witnesses and resource people. Arranges for expert witness inspections and obtains approval from counsel of record and specified parties.
  6. Conducts research and locates cases, depositions, opinions, reports, and supporting information.
  7. Contacts and interviews parties, witnesses, and experts, including obtaining written statements from witnesses.
  8. Reviews and outlines depositions and indexes and summarizes documents.
  9. Utilizes computerized litigation techniques and software when applicable.
  10. Assists in trial preparation.
  11. Performs assigned legal research using all available resources.
  12. Manages voluminous records and is familiar and mindful of Patient Privacy Act and confidentiality.
  13. Follows the ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the state.
  14. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

  1. Knowledge of legal principles and practices acquired through formal paralegal training or its equivalent.
  2. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.  Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when evaluating legal matters.
  3. Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors.
  4. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate in person, by e-mail and telephone, and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff. Must be able to convey information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
  5. Work occasionally requires a high level of effort while organizing and maintaining multiple cases.
  6. Ability to retrieve, print and distribute volumes of client files and support information. Must be able to push and pull packages, and books weighing up to 20 pounds as well as retrieve and replace objects from shelves of up to 8 feet high.
  7. Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week. May also require irregular hours to perform the essential duties of the position.
  8. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  9. Ability to travel to private and public buildings to assist attorney in attending to client needs on legal matters.
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
