Summary:
Responsible for planning, coordinating, organizing and directing the operations and staff (clinical and non-clinical) of the Surgical Services Department including the Operating Room, Outpatient Surgical Services, Anesthesia, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. Evaluates the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well being of all patients in the assigned department(s). Coordinates (or supervises coordination) of visiting specialists to maintain a workable schedule in the OR. Responsible for the fiscal, material and human resource management of the department as well as other administrative duties as assigned by the Chief Nurse Executive. Participates in the development and implementation of departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Maintains interdepartmental and intradepartmental communication. Articulates and enforces standards for quality/safe patient care. Develops and implements innovative systems and processes that improve staff and patient quality and safety. Demonstrates achievable and measurable results and develop action plans for improvement. Initiates, monitors, and enforces regulatory requirements. Holds self and others accountable to policy, standards, and commitments and provides timely follow through on questions and concerns. Remains current of new trends and best practices and incorporates into Surgical Services. Ensures development of Surgical Services initiatives to improve patient experience and family centered care. Develops and implements clinical outcome measures for quality improvement, cost and complication reduction, and the implementation of evidence-based practice. Maintains open communication with department staff to create a Culture of Safety and engages staff in Continuous Quality Improvement. Knowledgeable of AORN Guidelines1 and Perioperative Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. Interprets, implements, and monitors TJC, state, and federal regulations pertaining to department functions. Ensure departmental compliance with TJC standards as well as requirements set by state and federal regulatory bodies. Applies age specific considerations and cultural diversity when rendering patient care. Supports facility’s mission statement.
Position Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: Must have completed a program of education in nursing from an NLN approved institution. BSN, Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Master’s degree in a health care or Business Administration related field preferred.
- Minimum Experience: Minimum of (2) two years’ experience in operating room. Must also have at least 2 years of surgical services management (at a surgery center or the like).
- License, Certification, Registration: In addition, must be licensed in good standing in the State of Alaska as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN). Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). The successful candidate will be required to pass and maintain competencies for this position. Certified Nursing Operating Room (CNOR) preferred. Attain certification within 6 months Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) preferred
- Equipment/Tools: Office machines (i.e., multi-line telephone, copy machine, fax machine, Microsoft Office, etc.) Knowledge of electronic health record systems, Cerner preferred.
- Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Knowledgeable of AORN Guidelines1 and Perioperative Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice.
Salary : $126,152 - $164,008
