The City of Geneva is seeking an experienced Fleet Maintenance Technician to join our Public Works Fleet Division. This position performs skilled repairs and maintenance on the City's mechanical fleet, which includes vehicles and equipment. This is a 40-hour-per week, full-time position that works from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday - Friday. Performs skilled repair and maintenance on City vehicles, equipment, and fire apparatus, including law enforcement vehicles, heavy-duty and light-duty dump trucks, pickup trucks, administration vehicles, end loaders, backhoes, bucket trucks, cranes, rollers, sewer maintenance equipment, landscaping maintenance equipment, off-site generators, brush chippers, trailers, towed equipment, ambulances, and others.

Repairs, rebuilds, and replaces small and large engines, power train components, hydraulic components on end loaders and backhoes, steering components, brake shoes, brake discs, and ABS, hydraulic cylinders, air brake chambers and valves, carburetors, electronic ignition components, alternators, starters, generators, electronic fuel injection, etc.

Performs major and minor engine, electrical, and exhaust system repairs.

Performs complex technical diagnoses to fuel delivery systems, direct ignition systems, ABS, SRS, heating and air conditioning systems, lighting, and emission controls for gas and diesel engines. Ability to comprehend electrical schematics and locate and repair circuitry.

Repairs and maintains various small tools and equipment in support of field operations for the City.

Performs vehicle and equipment preventative maintenance inspections and duties such as oil changes, fluids, tune-ups, brake replacements, belt replacements, tire changes and repairs, steering, suspension, and hydraulic-operated systems.

Performs engine tune-ups and maintenance on vehicles and equipment requiring the use of diagnostic scanners, lab scope, and KV monitors, and exhaust gas analyzers.

Uses welding and brazing equipment and torches, and plasma cutters to fabricate new or repair old equipment.

Installs equipment for seasonal use, such as snow plow frames, plows, salt spreaders, sidewalk equipment, snow tires, and other snow removal equipment.

Installs added electrical and safety systems on new vehicles, including trailer brake controllers, warning lights and controllers, two-way radios and chargers, accessory power outlets, and reverse cameras and monitors.

Other duties as assigned, such as snow and ice operations.  

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Lifting equipment – Jacks, hoists, stands, screw supports
Power tools – Electrical, pneumatic, hydro
Diagnostic equipment – Monitor, All Data, DVOM, A/C machine, Pro Link, Service Maxx, EZ Tech, lab scopes, Boss exhaust gas analyzer, Ford OEM software, Snap-On, Bosch
Heavy Equipment – Fork trucks
Fabrication Equipment – Welder torch, plasma cutter
Hand Tools – Basic and specialty
Fleet Management Software, such as CFA
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in Auto and/or Diesel Technology; and,
Three years experience in complex diagnosis and repair of vehicles and equipment; or,
Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications:
Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within six months of hire date.
MACS certification
Forklift certification
EVT certification
ASE certification
CST (Safety Lane Certification)
Hours for this position are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The work primarily occurs indoors at our main Public Works Facility, but there are times when work is performed outdoors in a range of weather conditions. As mentioned above, this position is subject to emergency and after-hours callback, primarily on a rotating basis. Due to this, candidates must reside within a 16-mile straight-line radius of the City's boundaries within one year of employment. You can review the residency map on our website.

The City offers a generous benefit package, which includes ample paid time off as well as affordable and competitive health insurance options and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund program (IMRF). The starting base rate of pay for this position is $31.11 and is covered by the current collective bargaining agreement between the City of Geneva and IBEW 196. Salary : $64,709 - $103,771
