Job Overview

Genesis Community Support Services is seeking dependable, compassionate, and motivated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and qualified Peer Support Professionals to join our team.

We provide community-based services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and individuals with mental health, behavioral health, and/or co-occurring needs.

Staff may work across a variety of services based on qualifications, experience, availability, and individual needs, including Day Supports/Day Habilitation, Community Living and Supports (CLS), Supported Living, Community Networking, Supported Employment, Peer Support, and other community-based services.

We are looking for professionals who understand that quality direct support is about promoting independence, choice, skill development, community involvement, employment, recovery, and achievement of person-centered goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide person-centered support according to each individual's ISP/PCP, goals, preferences, and identified needs.
• Support individuals with developing independent living, communication, social, employment, and community-living skills.
• Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and personal care when identified as a support need.
• Support individuals with accessing their communities, participating in meaningful activities, and building natural supports.
• Assist with employment readiness, job development, job coaching, and workplace skills when assigned to employment services.
• Support recovery, wellness, coping skills, self-advocacy, and community integration when assigned to behavioral health or Peer Support services.
• Assist with household skills, meal preparation, budgeting, shopping, organization, and daily routines as applicable.
• Provide appropriate supervision and support while encouraging individuals to complete tasks as independently as possible.
• Follow behavioral-support strategies, safety plans, and crisis procedures when applicable.
• Administer medications when assigned, trained, and authorized.
• Provide transportation to community activities, employment sites, appointments, or other approved locations when required.
• Complete accurate and timely electronic service documentation and document progress toward individual goals.
• Report health, safety, behavioral, or other significant concerns according to agency procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and respect for individual rights and choices.
• Participate in required training, supervision, and team meetings.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED required for applicable positions; additional qualifications may be required depending on the assigned service.
• Previous experience in direct support, IDD services, behavioral health, mental health, Supported Living, CLS, Day Supports, Supported Employment, Peer Support, group homes, or other human services is preferred.
• Peer Support applicants must meet applicable certification and credentialing requirements.
• Must be dependable, professional, patient, and able to work with individuals with varying behavioral and support needs.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently while following ISP/PCP requirements, agency procedures, and supervisory direction.
• Must successfully complete required background and credentialing requirements.

Transportation Requirements

Many positions are community-based. Candidates must have reliable transportation and, for assignments requiring transportation of individuals:

• Valid driver's license
• Safe driving record
• Current automobile insurance
• Reliable vehicle
• Ability to travel throughout Greensboro and surrounding service areas

Required Training

Training requirements vary by assignment and may include CPR/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Seizure Management, NCI/crisis intervention, Medication Administration, HIPAA, individual rights, person-centered practices, and individual-specific training.

Schedules and assignments vary based on individual needs, authorized services, staff qualifications, and availability.
