Primary Responsibility
The Commercial Banking Portfolio Manager is responsible for supporting the Commercial Relationship Managers in managing a portfolio of commercial bank clients, ensuring strong client relationships, risk management, and portfolio oversight. This role involves analyzing financial statements, structuring loans, and collaborating with relationship managers and credit teams to deliver tailored financial solutions to small and mid-sized business clients.
Essential Functions
Bachelor’s degree (Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field) plus a minimum of 4 years of experience in commercial or business banking, credit analysis, or portfolio management, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Functions
- Portfolio Management:
- Assist the Commercial Relationship Managers in managing and monitoring a portfolio of commercial banking clients to ensure performance, risk mitigation, and client satisfaction.
- Conduct regular reviews of financial performance, covenant compliance, and risk ratings.
- Proactively identify warning signs of potential credit issues and recommend appropriate actions.
- Client Relationship Support:
- Partner with Relationship Managers to provide exceptional service and financial solutions to clients.
- Participate in client meetings to understand business needs and provide strategic insights.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for cross-selling banking products and services.
- Credit Analysis & Underwriting:
- Collect and analyze client financial statements, tax returns, and other credit information.
- Assist in preparing present credit proposals, including new and renewal loans, modifications, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with Credit Analysts to ensure timely and accurate credit decisions.
- Assist in the preparation of the bank’s quarterly problem loan reports (CLAPs).
- Loan Structuring & Documentation:
- Recommend appropriate loan structures and terms based on client needs and bank policies.
- Work closely with collateral and documentation and credit teams to ensure proper documentation and closing of transactions.
- Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure adherence to internal credit policies and external regulatory requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of lending regulations, economic trends, and industry developments.
Bachelor’s degree (Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field) plus a minimum of 4 years of experience in commercial or business banking, credit analysis, or portfolio management, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Formal credit training is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and organizational ability.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of commercial loan documentation and regulatory environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and banking systems (e.g., Moody’s, Salesforce, or internal loan systems).
- Experience working with SBA lending
- Working knowledge of nCino/Salesforce preferred
- Knowledge of local market dynamics and business community
