POSITION: (2) Kindergarten Paraprofessional (GECS)

Bentley Community Schools is a thriving PK-12 school district located in the City of Burton, Michigan. We serve approximately 300 students in K-5th grades at Barhitte Elementary, our tight-knit community is passionate about fostering a positive, high energy, and supportive learning environment

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Bentley Community Schools is seeking an energetic, patient, and highly adaptable individual to serve as a Kindergarten Paraprofessional. This role works directly with early elementary teachers to support emergent learners through instructional tasks, active play, self-care routines, and social-emotional growth.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assist classroom teachers with academic tasks, social skill development, and play-based learning.
• Monitor and support hyperactive or disengaged students, redirecting behaviors to maintain a productive classroom atmosphere.
• Provide compassionate, hands-on assistance with student hygiene care, including toileting and clothing needs.
• Provide active supervision during traditional classroom activities, outdoor exploration, lunch, and transitions.
• Implement behavioral intervention plans and individual learning goals as directed.
• Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent (completion of 60 college credit hours, Associate’s Degree, or passage of an approved state academic assessment preferred).
• Current CPR and basic First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
• High energy, enthusiasm, and a genuine love for working with young children.
• Understand and willing to abide by the Michigan Code of Educational Ethics and District policies and administrative guidelines

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This is a contracted position through GECS.

REPORTS TO: Debbi Gooch, BES Principal

WORKDAY/WEEK: Monday – Friday, 8:00 - 3:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch

35 hours per week

STARTING DATE: ASAP

SALARY: $13.73 per hour

MINIMUM PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE SKILLS

• Physical Stamina & Mobility: Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and keep pace with hyperactive, energy-filled young children for extended periods. Ability to ambulate varied outdoor terrain for up to 5 miles per day in diverse weather conditions.
• Strength & Quick Response: Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Physical agility to move swiftly to intervene, manage elopement/safety risks, or respond to emergency situations effectively.
• Hygiene & Personal Care Assistance: Willingness and physical capability to compassionately assist young children who require help with toileting, personal hygiene, and routine self-care.
• Adaptive & Patient Communication: Strong verbal communication skills with the patience to effectively listen to, understand, and guide emergent learners who may not communicate clearly or articulate their feelings well.
• Emotional Regulation & Behavioral Management: Cognitive ability to maintain total composure, patience, and mental focus in dynamic, noisy, or stressful environment. Skill in redirecting high-energy behaviors and de-escalating emotional outbursts calmly and constructively.
• Problem-Solving & Vigilance: Eager to identify problems independently and apply creative solutions to keep students safe, engaged, and supported throughout the day.
