REPORTS TO: Clinic Administrator
OVERALL POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Medical Assistant plays a pivotal role in providing administrative and clinical support to healthcare professionals in a medical setting. They contribute to the efficient operation of the facility while ensuring patients receive quality care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Prepare examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness and stocking supplies.
· Escort patients to the examination rooms and assist with seating and comfort.
· Record patient medical history, including allergies and current medications.
· Measure and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiratory rate.
· Assist healthcare providers during examinations and minor procedures.
· Prepare and sterilize medical instruments and equipment.
· Collect and label specimens for laboratory testing, such as blood, urine, or cultures.
· Ensure proper handling and transportation of specimens.
· Administer medications and injections as directed by a healthcare provider.
· Educate patients on medication use, dosage, and potential side effects.
· Provide patients with instructions on post-care, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
· Offer health education materials and resources.
· Schedule patient appointments, tests, and procedures.
· Verify and update patient demographic information.
· Maintain electronic health records (EHR) and ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
· Organize and file medical documents, reports, and correspondence.
· Greet and check in patients, providing them with necessary forms and information.
· Answer phones, handle patient inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate staff.
· Monitor and maintain medical supplies, ordering stock as needed.
· Ensure the availability of necessary equipment and instruments.
· Adhere to healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, to maintain patient confidentiality.
· Follow infection control protocols and maintain a safe and clean environment.
· Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
· Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
· Vaccine reporting and inventory
· CLIA waived point of care testing like hbA1C, COVID, and Flu
· Diabetic Retinopathy screenings
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· High school diploma required
. Post-secondary education in a related field preferred.
· Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is preferred.
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
· Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a strong commitment to patient care.
· Proficiency in medical terminology and office software (e.g., EHR systems).
