The Production Assembler is responsible to productively assemble component parts according to work instructions and prints and accurately recording the transactions in GSM’s inventory system.

This job description is intended to be an overview of primary responsibilities for this position.  All employees are charged with providing assistance in generally similar duties when management deems it necessary.  Special projects and activities may also be created where employees’ talents can best be utilized. In addition, General Stamping & Metalworks is a growing organization responding to an ever-changing market.  It is expected that tasks and requirements will change from time to time and employees will be asked to respond as needed and within reason.

Organizational Relationships and Authority

The Production Assembler reports directly to the department supervisor.  There are no direct reports to this position.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Production Assembler is to ensure bill of material components are brought together in a safe, accurate, efficient manner according to work instructions and blue prints. 

Other responsibilities may include:

·Lifts component parts boxes up to 45 pounds

·Joins component parts together by rotating nuts and screws

·Packages assembled parts as required

·Accurately and efficiently enters completed assembly counts into the ERP system

·Safely uses small automatic hand tools to secure bolts

·Labels finished product accurately

·Keeps assembly areas free of debris and empties trash bins as trained

·Counts work in process inventory locations

·Reports inventory shortages to supervisor

Job Demands and Expectations

All GSM personnel are expected to work overtime on occasion, including weekends as needed. The work environment is fast-paced, dynamic and team-oriented. Each employee contributes to the overall success of the organization and is expected to grow with the company.

Requirements

Ability to hand count

Ability to learn to use inventory scales for small hardware components

Ability to control small automated hand tools

The individual will also maintain competency with the following programs and equipment:

Education

·High school diploma or GED preferred

Experience

Shipping and warehouse or materials handling experience preferred.

·Non air conditioned production floor with uneven surfaces

·Shipping Docks and fork lift pathways with motorized forklift, golf cart and burden carrier traffic

·Pallet jack and shipping containers with predefined weight limitations

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly or occasionally required to meet the following physical demands:

  • Able to speak clearly and understandably, with  a pleasant tone of voice and manner
  • Ability to hear within a range that enables normal telephone communication
  • Able to see a computer screen within reasonable reading distance without strain
  • Able to stand on concrete flooring up to 10 hours per day (1/2 Lunch and breaks during work day)
  • Able to type at a keyboard without bodily or psychological discomfort most of the working day

Must be able to work up to 10 hours per day and up to 6 days per week
