General Placement Service is recruiting for a Surety Underwriter for their client, a financially strong and highly regarded national insurance carrier known for disciplined underwriting, strong agency partnerships, and a leading presence in the surety marketplace. This position is responsible for evaluating surety risks through financial and credit analysis, underwriting new and renewal bond business, and providing guidance to agents on underwriting requirements and cross-sell opportunities. All work must be completed in alignment with regulatory standards and company guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed financial, credit, and risk analyses using underwriting systems and financial applications
- Underwrite new and renewal surety accounts within authority and support cross-selling when appropriate
- Research and apply underwriting rules, guidelines, rating manuals, and insurance regulations
- Prepare and process renewal correspondence, inquiries, and revisions; manage distribution of materials to assigned agents
- Communicate underwriting appetite, decisions, and requirements clearly to agents and internal departments
- Build and maintain productive relationships with agents and internal partners while supporting team goals
- Monitor assigned territories and agencies for profitability, retention, and growth using electronic reporting tools
- Participate in team initiatives and support continuous improvement of underwriting procedures
Qualifications
- Strong analytical, financial, and communication skills
- Ability to negotiate and collaborate effectively with agents and internal stakeholders
- Capable of working independently as well as part of a team
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- 1–3 years of accounting or financial statement analysis experience preferred
- Surety or fidelity underwriting experience a plus
Pay: $60,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
