We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. Responsibilities
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10 diagnosis codes and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) procedure codes in accordance with industry standards.
- Ensure accurate coding for DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications to facilitate proper hospital reimbursement processes.
- Prepare and submit clean claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to insurance companies and third-party payers.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices, resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and insurance policies to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and improve coding accuracy.
- Manage medical records efficiently, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to privacy laws such as HIPAA.
- Stay updated on changes in ICD coding standards, CPT updates, and other relevant healthcare regulations to maintain high-quality service.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or a related healthcare administrative role within a medical office environment.
- Strong proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, along with knowledge of DRG classifications.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for documentation, billing, and coding purposes.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology and medical records management practices.
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately for coding purposes.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to minimize errors in billing processes.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers, insurance representatives, and patients.
