DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively contribute to system-level design, integration, and testing for unmanned aircraft system development environments, focusing on the coordination of sub-systems, avionics, sensors, payloads, ground control stations, support equipment, supporting facilities, and overall system functionality used for product development/verification/validation.
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, setting high technical and ethical standards, sharing best practices, and supporting professional development.
- Plan and schedule your engineering activities to ensure project milestones and deliverables are met. Use project management tools such as Jira to track/monitor your and your team’s progress and adjust resources.
- Foster strong collaboration with mechanical engineering, software engineering, project engineering, system development and test, manufacturing, and program management teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure alignment of objectives and milestones.
- Guide and support direct reports in becoming effective points of contact for cross-functional technical issues, helping them build skills in communication and collaborative problem-solving with other teams.
- Participate in, and help coordinate, design reviews, technical assessments, and system integration efforts, ensuring solutions are robust and meet functional engineering and program requirements.
- Support the development and management of project funding, budgets, and resource allocation. Maintain accountability for labor, asset utilization, and financial performance of the team’s work.
- Contribute to SIL related business planning and proposal estimates to support our ongoing and future projects.
- Participate in documentation of engineering processes, findings, and solutions. Ensure technical data is accurate, complete, and compliant with company and regulatory standards.
- Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement, ensuring all work adheres to relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and developing engineering talent to strengthen the team’s capabilities and capacities.
- Partner with other SIL team supervisors as an acting supervisor for lab technicians and system test analysts during times when all other supervisors are unavailable, providing technical guidance, work direction, and operational oversight to ensure continuity of SIL operations and testing activities.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Progressive engineering experience in system-level engineering and project engineering is required.
- Strong background in system integration, project engineering, and technical leadership, preferably within aerospace or defense working with UAV/UAS.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineers, set a positive example, and foster a collaborative team environment.
- Effective project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating complex engineering efforts with demanding timelines mixed with ad hoc work.
- Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines and functions, building productive relationships with engineering, manufacturing, and program management teams.
- Proficiency in financial management related to engineering projects, including budgeting, labor tracking, asset utilization/management, and cost accountability.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and interact effectively at all organizational levels.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapt to changing priorities, and manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Willingness to work extended hours and travel as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
