GA-ASI’s Materials Test Lab has a position available for an experienced Materials Test Engineer to lead a group of technicians in the mechanical and physical testing of metallic and no-metallic materials.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direct support to the development and implementation of the following test methods and test equipment to support Quality Inspection of incoming raw materials, root cause investigations and new product development:
The candidate will also be responsible for managing the interface of the lab to internal and external customers, managing the flow of data and documentation and directing the daily operations of the lab and technicians.

- Resin Digestion
- Rheometer
- Microscopy
- Mechanical testing to ASTM and SACMA standards on Instron load frames
The candidate will also be responsible for managing the interface of the lab to internal and external customers, managing the flow of data and documentation and directing the daily operations of the lab and technicians.
- Ensure compliance, reporting, and safety standards are maintained
- Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures
Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Direct experience in the following test lab processes:
- FTIR
- DMA
- DSC
- TMA
- Resin Digestion
- Rehometer
- Microscopy
- Experience in data acquisition, operation of strain gage and extensometer.
- Experience in the operation of load frames to perform RT testing to ASTM and SACMA test standards.
- Experience with Root Cause Analysis.
- Maintaining database of test results and lab performance metrics.
- Programming of lab equipment.
- Lamination of composite materials.
- Secondary bonding of metallic and non-metallic substrates using a variety of adhesive forms.
- Strong written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to work within a team with emphasis on Customer service.
- Must have strong Microsoft Excel and data analytical skills and experience.
- Work under general supervision, following established procedures.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required.
