Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified Construction Inspector (CI) to provide on-site monitoring for a federal construction project in Yorktown, VA. Serving as an advisor to the Government Contracting Officer (KO) and Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), you will ensure compliance with contract drawings, specifications, and building codes without directing construction means or methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Inspection & Surveillance: Perform daily on-site inspections of multi-trade construction work and site utilities to ensure compliance with contract documents.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain a bound Inspector’s Daily Diary, log field tests, and submit typed weekly reports with progress photographs.
- Contractor Oversight: Monitor submittals, verify weekly contractor as-built drawings, and review contractor payment requests, check certified payrolls, and conduct monthly random employee labor interviews.
- Site Coordination: Coordinate base passes, utility outages, and deliveries with Coast Guard and promptly notify the COR and PM of any non-compliant work, safety violations, or potential contract disputes.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a PE license, PMP credential, or QA/QC certifications earned in the last 10 years AND 5 years of experience OR 10 years of experience as a construction inspector, contractor superintendent, or quality control manager.
- Federal Experience: Minimum of 2 years of work experience on Federal Government construction projects within the last 10 years (U.S. Coast Guard project experience is a plus).
- Local & Occupied Space Experience: Minimum of 2 years of multi-trade construction experience in Virginia, as well as experience inspecting work adjacent to active, tenant-occupied spaces.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in blueprint/specification reading, building codes, and basic computer applications (Procore software experience is a plus).
- Security Clearance: Must sign a Federal Non-Disclosure Agreement (DHS Form 11000-6) and pass a background check for on-site government badge access
