Job Summary
We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the Wildland Fire Chemical Systems (WFCS) Laboratory in Missoula, MT. In this role, you will perform routine laboratory testing, sample preparation, and physical evaluations of wildland fire retardants, foams, and gels to support chemical qualifications and nationwide wildfire suppression safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Sample Preparation & Testing: Prepare chemical test samples and execute routine lab procedures following strict specifications and study plans.
- Instrument Operations: Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical chemistry lab instruments.
- Corrosion Testing Support: Acid-clean corrosion test samples; measure, mark, and track corrosion coupons.
- Lab Support & Safety: Log incoming chemical samples, assist in building combustion fuel beds, and log/track hazardous waste in compliance with protocols.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical discipline with 1 years of experience in a chemistry lab setting, OR 5 years of general laboratory experience.
- Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with basic lab equipment, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and data entry software.
- Physical Demands: Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs and spending extended periods standing or walking in a laboratory environment.
- Security Clearance: Must pass a federal background check to obtain credentials (Linc Pass)
