Investment Accounting Operations Specialist
Position Description
As an Investment Accounting Operations Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting NEAM’s daily investment accounting operations for unmanaged insurance client accounts. This position focuses on the accurate and timely processing of unmanaged trades and bank reconciliations to ensure proper accounting for our unmanaged accounts for our insurance clients. You will collaborate across teams to maintain data integrity and support NEAM’s commitment to exceptional client service.
Unmanaged Trade Processing:
Review and process trades not captured by automated systems.
Investigate and resolve trade discrepancies.
Ensure compliance with client accounting procedures and internal controls.
Bank Reconciliations & Cash Requirements:
Perform daily bank reconciliations across multiple custodial accounts.
Identify and resolve cash breaks and variances.
Operational Support:
Set up and maintain Security Master file data for unmanaged trades across multiple asset classes.
Maintain accurate records of investment transactions and reconciliations.
Assist with month-end and quarter-end close processes.
Provide documentation and support for internal and external audits.
Process Optimization:
Recommend and implement improvements to trade and reconciliation workflows.
Participate in system enhancements and testing initiatives
Perform function in line with established business controls
Qualifications
5 years of experience in investment operations or accounting, preferably within asset management or insurance.
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or related field or equivalent work experience
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with high attention to detail
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task
Ability to take direction, work independently and within a team environment
Capable of multi-tasking in a daily, deadline driven environment, while keeping others well-informed.
Must have an inquisitive and investigative mindset to dig deeper rather than accept information at face value.
Solid working knowledge and experience with fixed income and equity instruments.
Ability to analyze complicated situations and work with team members to develop solutions.
Effective oral and written communication skills
Strong understanding of fixed income securities and trade lifecycle.
Experience with investment accounting platforms (CAMRA).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including advanced Excel skills; familiarity with data analysis tools a plus.
SQL experience a plus.
