General Responsibilities:
The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Worker position is responsible for providing assistance to teachers and students in the development of strategies to achieve academic, behavioral, and social goals. This is a 12-month shared staff position with our Residential Treatment Facility working in the Residential Treatment Facility before and after school hours. The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Worker is an active participant in Teaching Assistant and Clinical Services meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing one-to-one supervision of a child.
- Coordinating work within the school, and the Residential Treatment Program.
- Complying with operating policies and procedures established for the assigned function.
- Maintaining appropriate records and providing assigned reports.
- Responsible for running groups and assisting students to problem solve and reinforce positive behavior.
Education/Training:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology or related fields preferred.
Top Skill(s):
- Ability to facilitate social skills groups Proficient interpersonal relations and communication
- Ability to participate in physical restraint of children
- Knowledge of risk assessment protocol
- Ability to lead small group academic instruction
- Knowledge and understanding of socially and emotionally challenged children and/or children with autism.
Experience:
- A minimum of one (1) year of related experience is required.
