Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCC) – Fort Drum, NY
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) System is the Army’s primary investment in Soldier readiness. The system empowers and equips Soldiers to take charge of their health, fitness, and well-being in order to optimize individual performance.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCC) is responsible for improving Soldier physical readiness by assisting with strength and conditioning programs. The SCC functions as integrated members of a Brigade (BDE)- based multi-disciplinary team focused on optimizing Soldier readiness and performance within the Army’s new Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) System.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
SCCs will be embedded at the BDE level in a Military setting. The preponderance of work will be performed in a Military training environment (e.g., fitness center, administrative area, outdoors, range, field training area etc.), which may require local travel.
SCCs will work as part of the H2F Performance Team to develop a comprehensive, periodized education and services program integrated and synchronized with the BDE and Battalion (BN) training calendars.
Assist the Lead SCC with developing, coordinating, executing, and managing recommended and approved H2F System strength and conditioning programs.
Develop lines of communication within the BDE, BN and Company leadership, including participating in associated training and other meetings.
Coordinate, execute, and manage approved physical performance optimization training programs within the framework of the unit’s training/operational schedule, battle rhythm, and culture.
Develop and recommend evidence-based, periodized strength and conditioning programs focused on unit mission and individual Soldier tasks IAW H2F System that are synchronized and integrated with unit training/operational schedule, battle rhythm, and culture and implement upon Government approval.
As required, submit strength and conditioning programs, with quantified training loads, to Lead SCC for approval and implement upon Government approval.
Assist the Lead SCC to develop, coordinate, and execute approved training programs for Soldiers with physical limitations that are medically cleared for strength and conditioning training/reconditioning.
Observe BDE specific training events (e.g., shooting range, obstacle courses, combative training areas, etc.) as required.
Track and document Soldier/unit progression on a regular basis and recommend opportunities for H2F System improvement to the Government.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university
Certification:
Possess a current certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification with Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification. Certification cards must display the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross emblem. Web-based classes do not meet required standards.
Experience:
A minimum of three full years of relevant strength and conditioning work experience within the last five years. Relevant experience is defined as independently developing and executing task and environment specific functional injury control and health/well-being programs for groups of athletes or DoD/Department of Homeland Security / Department of Justice entities focused on a common sport or mission performance goal.
Employment related to internships or graduate work up to one year will be considered towards relevant experience. SCC internships are being conducted across multiple H2F BDEs through university partnerships.
Upon COR-RA pre-approval, the three-year experience requirement may be waived for SCC interns or Graduate assistants working with professional/semi-professional, ROTC, collegiate or equivalent sports teams for a minimum of 3 months. However, the Subcontractor shall meet all certification requirements.
Upon COR-RA pre-approval, the three-year experience requirement may be waived for honorably discharged prior service members or Military spouses.
Have the ability to read, write, and speak English and effectively communicate with Soldiers and leadership.
Demonstrate sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that they can relate to a variety of Soldiers from diverse backgrounds.
Have the ability to operate a computer utilizing Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, and Teams.
Be capable of properly lifting and manipulating loads or weights up to 45 pounds and capable of meeting physical demands of training in all types of weather with Soldiers including the ability to hike over rough terrain, function in austere environments to observe Soldier training evolutions and to train, educate, coach, and mentor.
Be capable of observing, demonstrating, and correcting Soldier’s performance of training/exercise techniques and form.
Not have been convicted of a felony.
