What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optician/Office Assistant position at Gem Vision?
A Little About Us
Gem Vision is a vibrant rural optometric clinic dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable eye care for the whole family with sensitivity, respect, and integrity.
As our clinic continues to grow, we're looking for a friendly, dependable team member who enjoys working with people and wants to help our patients see and feel their best. We're a close-knit team that values excellent patient care, a positive attitude, teamwork, and a willingness to jump in wherever help is needed.
No optical experience? That's okay! We're willing to train the right person who is eager to learn, takes pride in their work, and wants to grow with our team.
What You'll Do
- Help patients choose glasses that fit their prescription, style, and budget.
- Review eyewear pricing and insurance benefits with patients.
- Take accurate measurements for glasses and ensure a proper fit.
- Place eyewear orders with our labs, process payments, and handle insurance billing as needed.
- Notify patients when their glasses are ready, dispense eyewear, and make frame adjustments or repairs when possible.
- Work with patients and optical labs to resolve any issues that come up with eyewear orders.
- Keep the optical area organized, maintain frame inventory, and help out other team members when needed.
- Protect patient privacy and follow HIPAA requirements.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is friendly, motivated, detail-oriented, and fun to work with!
You might be a great fit if you:
- Believe the phrase “it's not my job” is NOT a good excuse.
- Have a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
- Are dependable, organized, and willing to learn.
- Have basic math skills and are comfortable working with measurements, pricing, and insurance.
- Can communicate professionally and work well with a team.
- Take initiative, accept responsibility, and look for ways to help without always being asked.
- Understand the importance of patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Are flexible, willing to cross-train in other areas of the office, and ready to help with additional duties as needed.
Optical or healthcare experience is a plus, but not required. We're happy to train someone with the right attitude and a genuine desire to learn.
