Position Summary
Gem Prep teachers plan and deliver high-quality instruction while setting ambitious goals and using data to guide student mastery of grade-level standards. They create engaging, organized classrooms with high expectations, use diverse strategies to support academic and character development, and communicate progress with students and families. Teachers collaborate with colleagues, participate in professional learning, and contribute to a strong school community to ensure every student succeeds.
Key Responsibilities
Planning and Preparation
Set high expectations of achievement for students.
Internalize and prepare high-quality lessons tailored to meet diverse student needs and physical abilities.
Determine the use of instructional time within a fixed rotation schedule, including the use of digital software for knowledge acquisition and small-group skills training.
Plan each day to maximize every minute as learning time.
Utilize assessments to accurately measure student progress, including physical fitness testing and skill development markers.
Classroom Environment
Hold students accountable for high expectations of behavior and engagement during all physical activities.
Create a safe physical classroom environment that is conducive to both collaborative team sports and individual fitness goals.
Establish a culture of respect, sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and rapport.
Manage, organize, and maintain an inventory of all physical education equipment and facilities to ensure student safety.
Instruction
Hold students accountable for ambitious, measurable standards of physical achievement.
Invest students in their learning using various techniques to promote lifelong physical activity and health.
Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding academic progress and physical development.
Adapt activities for students with special needs, adhering strictly to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans.
Professional Responsibilities
Solicit and eagerly receive feedback from supervisors and team members to improve professional skills.
Collaborate with other teachers to analyze data, group students, and plan specific health or wellness interventions.
Participate in professional development opportunities and school-wide events, including student recruitment and graduation.
Maintain availability outside of classroom time to provide student support (e.g., lunch hour, evenings, or field days).
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Certification: Valid Idaho teaching certificate endorsed in Physical Education (K-12), or the ability to obtain one.
Physical Ability: Ability to demonstrate physical exercises, sports techniques, and proper form to students.
Lifting: Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds (e.g., ball bags, mats, or storage crates).
