Summary
This position is responsible for operating saw machinery to accurately cut pipes and parts according to blueprints and job specifications. The Saw Operator/Sawyer ensures materials are measured and cut within acceptable tolerances, performs required sanding and deburring, and maintains safe and efficient operation of equipment. This role also includes changing saw blades and tooling as needed, transporting materials using forklifts and overhead cranes, and completing material requisition documentation. The position supports production goals by maintaining quality standards, following safety procedures, and working with minimal supervision in a manufacturing environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate the saw machine with minimal supervision.
- Review blueprints and job specifications prior to cutting materials.
- Accurately measure and cut pipes and parts within acceptable tolerances.
- Perform sanding and deburring of pipes and parts as required.
- Change saw blades and tooling as needed for specific jobs.
- Operate a forklift to transport materials as necessary.
- Complete requisition slips for materials used during production.
- Control and operate an overhead crane.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Expectations
- Demonstrate ability to safely and efficiently use the saw machine without constant oversight.
- Ensure machine settings and operations are correct for each task.
- Thoroughly read and interpret blueprints and job specifications to understand project requirements.
- Double-check material sizes and quantities before beginning any cutting operations.
- Measure materials carefully to ensure precise cuts, adhering to specified tolerances.
- Minimize errors and material waste by following correct procedures.
- Sand and deburr cut pipes and parts to remove sharp edges and ensure smooth surfaces.
- Follow safety protocols when handling tools for sanding and deburring.
- Replace saw blades and other tooling based on job requirements and wear.
- Ensure proper installation and alignment of blades and tools to maintain cutting quality and safety.
- Safely and efficiently use a forklift to move heavy materials or finished products around the workplace.
- Follow proper lifting and handling techniques to avoid damage to materials and ensure personal safety.
- Accurately document and complete requisition slips for materials consumed during production.
- Ensure inventory levels are updated and all material usage is tracked correctly.
- Safely and efficiently operate the overhead crane to move large or heavy materials.
- Follow all safety guidelines when working with overhead cranes to avoid accidents or damage to materials.
- Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
- Respectfully take direction from manager.

Education Requirement
- High School Diploma/GED equivalent.
- Vocational or technical training in Manufacturing, Machine Operation, Industrial Technology; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Certifications in Forklift, overhead crane, and OSHA 10 or 30 for safety awareness preferred.
Skills Requirement
- Basic knowledge of welding, fabrication, and the manufacturing process.
- Fundamental blueprint reading skills, including interpretation of basic symbols.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and apply measurements to parts within acceptable tolerances.
- Possession of a reliable, high-quality tape measure for daily use.
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE):
- Steel-toed boots
- Safety glasses
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment preferred.
- Previous experience operating saw machines or similar cutting equipment is an asset.
- Experience measuring, cutting, sanding, and deburring metal parts preferred.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred or willingness to be trained.
- Entry-level candidates with relevant education or technical training may be considered in place of direct experience.
