Controls Systems Engineer
The GEE Group is currently working with an established manufacturing organization to identify a Controls Systems Engineer to join their engineering team. This individual will play a key role in maintaining and advancing the company’s automation platforms, ensuring the reliability, security, and long-term stability of their plant control systems.
Position Overview
The selected candidate will be responsible for sustaining and improving the control infrastructure across the facility, including PLC and HMI systems, automation servers, and industrial networks. This role combines hands-on technical support with system administration, documentation, and standards development.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep PLC and HMI firmware updated and functioning properly.
- Support and maintain the Rockwell software environment including system updates.
- Support the MES systems including patches, backups, and troubleshooting.
- Set up and maintain monitoring tools that alert the team to system issues.
- Define hardware, software, and network requirements for engineering servers and maintain related documentation.
- Review Microsoft server updates for compatibility and coordinate installation with IT and plant teams.
- Maintain internal standards for control system design and documentation.
- Manage backup and recovery procedures for engineering devices and work with IT to ensure they are followed correctly.
- Support and maintain industrial control networks and keep network documentation accurate.
- Manage user access for control systems and complete regular access reviews.
- Provide technical support for automation concerns through the internal help desk.
- Keep control system architecture documents updated for panels, hardware, and communication layouts.
- Assist with planning for replacement of aging automation equipment.
- Collaborate with third-party controls engineering partners when needed.
- Travel to other company sites to assist with controls and automation projects, troubleshooting, and upkeep.
Skills and Qualifications
- Work experience in Controls or Automation Engineering within manufacturing environments.
- Strong proficiency in ladder logic programming for Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLCs.
- Advanced HMI development experience.
- Hands-on experience with Ethernet/IP communication in plant control systems.
- Experience configuring and supporting industrial managed switches, such as Stratix, is preferred.
- Exposure to the .NET programming environment is helpful.
- Experience with SQL databases is preferred.
- General familiarity with designing or specifying process control panels.
- Ability to travel 25% for work
Salary : $100,000 - $160,000
