POSITION SUMMARY: Under the primary supervision of the Major of Corrections, the Office Assistant is a non-exempt position under FLSA. Among other duties this position performs a variety of clerical duties including clerical and data entry, legal hearings, and reception duties for the Geary County Detention Center; and provides responsive, courteous and efficient service to co-workers, County residents, and the public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (required):
- Answer the telephone, take messages, and transfer calls to the appropriate personnel.
- Greet visitors and refer them to the appropriate staff.
- Answer questions and direct incoming and outgoing visitors for inmates; mainly lawyers and family members.
- Control visitor and delivery access to the building.
- Monitor security cameras.
- Regular and dependable attendance essential.
- Assemble book-in data and arrest files.
- Log inmate visitation with attorneys and the public.
- Organize visits with corrections staff for inmates.
- Check for DNA on incoming inmates by logging into KCJIS-KBI.
- Use of Openfox, NCIC, KSJIS and other corrections related software.
- Ensures positive public relations with citizens and co-workers.
- Regular and dependable attendance required.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Minimum of one years experience in a clerical, secretarial or administrative assistant position preferred. NCIC certification required within one month of hire.
Must reside within a 30-mile radius of worksite within 90 days of employment.
