Enterprise Data Director

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Enterprise Data will be responsible for the continued development, governance, and adoption of GBU Life’s Snowflake-based data platform, as well as the data integrations that support life and annuity business operations.

Reporting to the Head of Digital & Data, the Director of Data & Analytics will own the enterprise data roadmap, lead data delivery initiatives, manage the Data Analyst, and partner closely with Business Intelligence, IT, and business leaders to ensure data is trusted, accessible, and actionable across the organization. This role is critical to enabling data-driven decision-making, operational efficiency, and scalable digital growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enterprise Data Strategy:

• Own and evolve GBU Life’s enterprise data strategy in alignment with digital, operational, and business objectives.
• Serve as the accountable leader for the enterprise data platform, including architecture direction, usage standards, and longterm scalability.
• Translate business priorities into a clear, executable data roadmap with measurable outcomes.

Platform Integration and Leadership:

• Oversee the design, development, and optimization of data pipelines and integrations across core systems, vendors, and thirdparty platforms.
• Partner with IT, BI, and business operations teams, along with external vendor partners to ensure reliable, secure, and performant data flows.
• Establish standards for data modeling, ingestion, transformation, quality, and consumption.

Business Insight Enablement:

• Work closely with the Business Intelligence team to align data availability with reporting, dashboards, and advanced analytics needs.
• Ensure data products support underwriting, policy services, claims, finance, and distribution use cases.
• Promote selfservice analytics while maintaining appropriate governance and data quality controls

Team Leadership & Development:

• Directly manage and mentor the Data Analyst, setting clear expectations, priorities, and development goals.
• Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement within the data function.
• Assess future data capability needs and contribute to workforce planning.

Data Governance & Compliance:

• Establish and enforce data governance practices, including data definitions, quality standards, lineage, and stewardship.
• Ensure enterprise data is accurate, consistent, and trusted by business stakeholders.
• Collaborate with security, risk, and compliance teams to ensure data practices align with regulatory and enterprise risk management requirements.

Stakeholder Partnership & Communication:

• Act as the primary data leader for crossfunctional initiatives, working with business leaders to understand needs and deliver value.
• Communicate data strategy, progress, and insights clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Support change management efforts related to new data capabilities, tools, and processes.

Properly adheres to company risk management principles:

• Adhering to and supporting GBU’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
• Understanding and complying with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures; completing all required training; executing and monitoring controls effectively (as applicable); appropriately identifying, assessing, escalating and remediating risks, potential issues and control failures (as applicable); and reporting compliance or regulatory concerns to management.
• Understanding and conducting oneself in accordance with the Employee Handbook and preserving GBU’s brand and reputation
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
• 10 years of experience in data, analytics, or information management roles, with progressive leadership responsibility.
• Proven experience owning and scaling enterprise data platforms, preferably Snowflake.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, and analytics architectures.
• Experience partnering with BI teams, business stakeholders, and IT delivery teams.
• Prior people management experience, including coaching and performance development.
• Experience in insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industries preferred.
• Successful track record of building and scaling large enterprise data platforms, preferrable using Snowflake and AWS services.
• Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with pragmatic execution.
• Strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex data concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.
• High sense of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement mindset.
