What are the responsibilities and job description for the Enterprise Critical Infrastructure Power & Cooling MDF/IDF SME position at GBIT (Global Bridge InfoTech Inc)?
This role is designed to deliver Server and Network main distribution frame (MDF) and IDF spaces. There is project governance that must be adhered to PepsiCo practices in a SaFE Scaled Agile & PMP framework for projects. Having familiarity with SaFE & PMP project methodologies is required. This role requires selecting physical abilities such as using ladders, stairwells, moving power whips, racking, and selecting compute devices. The role is to implement a best-in-class standards regime for server room builds and transition to the local site to meet their business needs.
Responsibilities:
- Perform/validate IT heat-load calculations for MDF/IDF spaces using deployed hardware power draw (kW) and convert to BTU/hr. Ensure cooling is sized for current load growth margin.
- Validate mechanical design assumptions including airflow, temperature differential, humidity control, and equipment placement to prevent hotspots.
- Coordinate with Facilities/mechanical vendors to ensure HVAC is installed, commissioned, and verified prior to rack & stack; document test results and readiness sign-off.
- Establish/verify environmental targets aligned with ASHRAE guidance for IT spaces (temperature/humidity operating range) and confirm monitoring points/sensor placement.
Qualifications:
- Experience and ability to manage a technology construction project from concept through completion.
- Familiarity with IT industry teams. Such as but not limited to: Infrastructure Compute, Infrastructure network, IT-OT, storage, TCP/IP, and most common IT terminology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
- Deep technical expertise and Proficiency with UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply), mechanical (cooling), and electrical terms and best practices
Electrical terms such as, but not limited to single phase, three phase power, transformers, surge protection devices
- Proficiency on (but not limited to) ANSI/TIA-568, TIA-569, TIA-606, J-STD-607, NFPA 70 (NEC), ASHRAE, and BICSI TDMM standards, norms and practices.
- Ability to manage several physical/construction tasks simultaneously. Including but not limited to:
- Electrical, mechanical, room construction, piping, flooring, insulation, roofing.
- Familiar with blueprints and design concepts.
- Familiar with electrical terms, building code, NEC and NEMA
- Experience with OSHA and workplace safety guidelines
- Experience working and partnering with General Contractors, electricians, mechanical technicians, carpenters, high and low voltage wiring personnel.
- Ability to work in construction spaces: inside, outside, all weather conditions, warehouse spaces
- Proficient skills with mathematics, measurements, temperature gradients, humidity terms is a must
- Ability to work in non-conventional spaces: ladders, catwalks, conveyer belts, rooftops, and scissor lifts.
- Precision and attention to detail is a must and enforceable
- Deliver consistent results at one and all sites with the exact same results
- Select travel when approved
- Regular written updates and status reports
- Demonstrated experience performing cooling capacity sizing for IT rooms (MDF/IDF), including kW load planning, BTU/hr conversion, and HVAC capacity validation (tons).
- Working knowledge of airflow management best practices (hot/cold aisle concepts, blanking panels, cable management to reduce airflow blockage).
- Ability to interpret technical proposals and validate against IT load requirements.
Experiences and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, Electrical, Mechanical or 7 years relevant experience in a construction or architectural role.
- ISO 9001 qualification is a plus
- 5 years proficiency with Microsoft suite of business tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint Project)
- Ability to deliver on tight deadlines and manage multiple deliverables.
- Ability to work with several vendors competing to work in tight spaces simultaneously.
- Ability to pivot and refocus on an immediate need on demand
- Proficiency with structured cabling standards: copper, fiber, and UTP.
- Precision and attention to detail is a must and enforceable
- Preferred: Experience with critical facilities environments (UPS, Generator/ATS, power redundancy)
