Job Summary:
The responsibility of the Planner is to source, purchase, and manage the supply of raw materials, ingredients, and packaging necessary for food production. This role involves negotiating with suppliers, ensuring cost-effective procurement, maintaining quality and safety standards, and managing inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess stock.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and purchase raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and other necessary supplies for food production.
- Evaluate and select suppliers based on price, quality, reliability, and compliance with food safety regulations.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to ensure cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality standards.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure a stable supply chain.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing.
- Identify alternative suppliers to mitigate risks of supply disruptions.
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate stock while minimizing waste and holding costs.
- Work closely with production and warehouse teams to align purchasing with demand forecasts.
- Track and analyze procurement costs, seeking opportunities for cost reduction.
- Ensure all purchased materials meet food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, FDA, USDA) and company quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, supplier certifications, and compliance documents.
- Conduct regular supplier audits and work with quality assurance teams to address any quality concerns.
- Analyze market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain risks to inform purchasing decisions.
- Prepare reports on purchasing performance, supplier evaluations, and cost savings initiatives.
- Identify and implement improvements in procurement processes to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Support sustainability initiatives by sourcing eco-friendly and ethical ingredients and packaging.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma, general education degree or equivalent.
- 1-3 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of food industry regulations, safety standards, and supplier management.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and procurement software.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in sourcing food ingredients, raw materials, or packaging for food production.
- Knowledge of Fishbowl Inventory System.
- Knowledge of Lean Supply Chain principles and cost-saving strategies.
