Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center located in Los Angeles, is a non-profit organization that provides an array of comprehensive mental health services for Children, Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and Adults suffering from mental illness in the Greater Los Angeles area. The organization consists of a standalone fifty five (55) bed hospital and six outlying outpatient facilities that have anywhere from fourteen (14) beds to one hundred and thirty four (134) beds. The organization has approximately four hundred (400) employees.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under direction of EVS Manager and Supervisor, this position is responsible for oversight or delegation of responsibilities within the EVS operation. The successful Environmental Services Lead Technician provides and maintains a clean and sanitary environment by ensuring all facilities surface are maintained. Assists EVS management in the day-to-day operations of Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center services including but not limited to staff scheduling, job assignments, performance management, and training. Functions as a primary contact for all Environmental Service needs during the shift. Ensures that EVS services are provided in a timely, consistent and collaborative manner while ensuring standards and procedures are followed. Also performs the duties of an EVS technician.
ESSENTIALS DUTIES
- Provides leadership, support and direction within the department.
- Maintains and adheres to environmental services departmental policies/procedures relative to OSHA, DHS, TJC, NFPA, OSHPD, and other governing agency regulations and standards.
- Coordinates, schedules, oversees, and conducts employee training/development necessary to meet established performance standards, teamwork, and service criteria.
- Performs area inspections with assigned environmental services personnel, to evaluate/monitor performance, customer satisfaction, and infection prevention program compliance.
- Assist with scheduling and coverage needs, assigning EVS Technicians to various areas, etc.
- Transport soiled linen, regular trash / biohazardous trash
- Maintains assigned areas in a clean, neat and orderly manner that includes performing the following daily cleaning functions throughout the facility: sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors; disinfecting furniture and equipment (I.e. beds, mattresses, walls, windows and window sills, TVs and TV remotes, door handles, blinds, etc.); empties and disinfects wastebaskets; transports waste to disposal area; disinfects bathrooms and maintains appropriate bathroom supplies; special cleaning projects as needed
- Ensures supply rooms are stocked and organized.
- Ensures assigned areas are cleaned in a timely fashion.
- Respond to service calls and pages in timely fashion.
- Arrange and/or moves furniture in patient and non-patient care areas according to room setup
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing cleaning tasks and entering isolation rooms
- Scrub, strip, wax and buff floors utilizing automatic and multi-speed floor machines and other specialized equipment
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of hospital infection prevention, sanitation protocols and cleaning methods.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
- Requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to follow basic safety procedures and precautions due to physical risks and exposure to hazardous chemicals
- Strong problem solving and follow up skills
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a lead or supervisory position required.
- Knowledgeable in all EVS policies and procedures
- Knowledgeable in floor care procedures
- Training background in EVS cleaning process
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATES
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid California Driver’s license.
- Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.
* Note: If indicated certifications/licenses are lacking, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire.
**Training needs to be completed within 30 days from the date of hire on a designated date provided by on-boarding. Staff need to be certified at the commensurate level for their role to perform their job duties (staff will be taken off the schedule if certification is not achieved).
