Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center, located in Los Angeles, is a non-profit organization that provides an array of comprehensive mental health services for Children, Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and Adults suffering from mental illness in the Greater Los Angeles area. The organization consists of a standalone fifty-five (55) )-bed hospital and six outlying outpatient facilities that have anywhere from fourteen (14) beds to one hundred and thirty-four (134) beds. The organization has approximately four hundred (400) employees.
SUMMARY OF POSITIONUnder general supervision of the Food Service Manager, covers all positions as needed. The Food Service Worker will be responsible for preparing meals for patients, clients, staff, guests, and special functions. Responsible for maintaining high standards of quality food production and portion control using standardized recipes. Maintains work area in a sanitized organized manner.

Essentials Duties
- Utilizes hairnets, aprons, gloves and washes hands frequently.
- Unlock or lock kitchen doors.
- Record the temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, food and steam table.
- Utilizes tables, ovens, grill, toasters, deep fryers and electrical equipment.
- Prepare/serve designed foods for shift. Read the menus.
- Starts tray line within established time frame. Limit talking business. Serve proper portions per established guidelines. Garnishes appropriately per policy. Prepare food and sack lunches for Satellite, RRC, and Shelter.
- Answer questions regarding day to day work. Resolve routine problems and questions. Seek additional task during slow time.
- Maintains work area in a sanitary fashion.
- Prepare late tray. Wash pots, sweeps and mop the kitchen floors.
- Store leftovers w/label with date.
- Checks menus for next day and pulls product appropriately.
- Assists Food Service Worker with soiled dishes and food carts.
- Works cooperatively and effectively with others.
- Clock in and out per policy and procedure. Attends work as scheduled.
- Attends meetings and in- service as directed
- Practices grooming standards per dress code.
- Performs other additional tasks as directed.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and follow recipes.
- Ability to handle employee food voucher.
- Ability to do minimal record keeping (logs).
- Ability to operate food service.
- Ability to prepare food in quantity and use portion control. Uses proper sanitation and safety practices.
- Ability to take directions and complete tasks.
- Ability to work cooperatively. Be neat, clean and well groomed.
