What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Human Resources position at Gateway Ticketing Systems?
For 35 years we’ve been providing innovative ticketing software solutions to some pretty cool industries including amusement parks, museums, attractions, zoos, and aquariums. We work with globally recognized destinations as well as lesser-known but locally loved attractions on six continents. Now, we are looking to add an experienced, Director of Human Resources to our executive team.
Shape the culture. Lead the people strategy. Grow the company.
We believe HR doesn’t exist to just create and enforce policies. It exists to build a company that works — for the business and the people inside it.
We’re looking for a Director of Human Resources who sees HR as a strategic engine, not a back‑office function, across our U.S., Canada, and the U.K. locations.
This role sits at the executive table and owns how our people strategy fuels growth, accountability, and performance. You’ll partner closely with the CEO and leadership team to design systems that scale, develop leaders who care, and create an employee experience that’s both human and high‑performing.
If you love building structure and culture — and you’re equally comfortable in a boardroom and a one‑on‑one — this role is for you.
What You’ll Own
You will:
- Lead the companywide HR strategy, aligned with Gateway’s vision and business goals
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executives, managers, and employees across all locations
- Ensure HR operations remain compliant across jurisdictions while staying practical and business friendly
- Own the Employee Handbook, HR policies, and employee communications — keeping them clear, current, and useful
- Build and manage compensation programs that are competitive, equitable, and sustainable
- Oversee benefits strategy and administration, partnering with brokers and vendors
- Coach leaders on performance management, employee relations, and corrective action
- Direct recruiting strategy and vendor partnerships to attract and retain strong talent
- Ensure accurate employee records, reporting, and compliance through HRIS and payroll systems
- Partner with Finance on payroll, 401(k), budgeting, and shared processes
- Manage workers’ compensation, employment related insurance renewals, and audits
- Oversee FMLA, leave administration, accommodations, and records retention
- Lead and develop the HR team, setting priorities and holding the function to a high standard
This is a hands on leadership role — you’ll design strategy and roll up your sleeves to execute it.
Who Thrives Here
This role is for someone who is steady, sharp, and respected — someone who can handle complexity without drama.
You bring:
- A bachelor’s degree in HR management or business administration
- 10 years of progressive HR experience, including 4 years leading people
- SPHR or SHRM SCP certification
- A strong grasp of employment law, compensation, benefits, and HR operations
- Comfort partnering with technical teams and supporting software driven organizations
- Advanced experience with HRIS systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred) and reporting
- The ability to juggle multiple priorities without losing the plot
- High discretion, sound judgment, and clear communication
- A master’s degree is a plus — but executive level thinking is required.
- SPHR or SHRMS CP strongly preferred.
Why This Role Matters
The Director of HR shapes how leadership shows up, how decisions get made, and how people experience the company. The impact of this role shows up in retention, performance, compliance, and culture — every single day.
Your work will directly shape:
- Leadership effectiveness
- Employee engagement and retention
- Organizational clarity and execution
- The company’s long-term health and reputation
Why You’ll Love It Here
- Executive level influence with real autonomy
- A leadership team that values clear thinking and honest feedback
- The opportunity to build systems that last, not just put out fires
- A culture that believes people and performance go hand in hand
Diversity and EEO statement:
