SALARY RANGE: $57,000- $70,222 ANNUALLY

LOCATION: GATEWAY COLLEGE PREPARATORY SCHOOL, GEORGETOWN TX
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will provide students eligible for a dyslexia program with intervention to support targeted learning activities and experiences to ensure academic achievement and improve academic success. Implement the Reading by Design program to students eligible for Dyslexia Intervention.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies
• Adapt instruction accordingly to the level of intervention necessary for a variety of students identified as being dyslexic.
• Maintain accurate written documentation of student work and progress.
• Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the needs of struggling students and students with dyslexia.
• Work collaboratively with general education teachers and other staff to support students with dyslexia.
• Willingness to maintain professional knowledge and skills.
• Ability to instruct students in reading and writing and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Student Growth and Development
• Ability to evaluate student progress.
• Conduct ongoing evaluations of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
• Complete Full and Individual Evaluations as part of the Multidisciplinary Team.
• Be a positive role model for students and support for parents. Provide progress reports on regular and as needed basis.
• Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students.
• Assist in selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials, including student access to audio books.
Communication
• Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers and support staff.
• Attend campus events and extracurricular activities as assigned.
• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
• Provides training and technical assistance for teachers as needed in support of the dyslexia.
Professional Growth and Academic Excellence
• Demonstrate knowledge of the dyslexia policies, State and Federal Laws and regulations and articulate these to district personnel and families.
• Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
• Participate in professional development activities to improve job-related skills that are aligned with campus and District needs.
• Compile, maintain and file reports, records and other documents as prescribed in the Dyslexia Handbook within prescribed timeline including progress monitoring and screening.
• Work collaboratively with district staff to serve the needs of all student groups according to the guidelines in policy.
• Schedule student groups and provide Dyslexia instruction per the Reading By Design Program.
• Provides support to staff in use of data and progress monitoring tools/assessments to identify students' areas of strength and areas for growth.
• Oversees data collection, including kindergarten and first grade dyslexia screenings, and progress monitoring processes.
• Evaluate the dyslexia program on an annual basis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of: Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instructing special education students in the subject and grade level assigned. Strong knowledge of child growth, development and behavior characteristics of special needs students; educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives, and the educational trends and research findings pertaining to special needs educational programming; behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques and methods, and conflict resolution procedures; socio-economic.
Experience:
• Experience in teaching reading and writing in the regular education, special education, or bilingual classroom; experience providing dyslexia interventions preferred.
Education:
• Bachelor's degree from accredited university
• Valid Texas teacher certificate with required endorsements.
• Completion of district-adopted researched-based dyslexia program training (i.e. Reading by Design) within the first month of being hired.
• Completion of K-3 Reading Academy during the first year of hire
• Special Education EC-12 certification during the first year of hire.
• Completion of TEA's Texas Dyslexia Academies (1-6) through TEA Learn before being hired.
• Completion of TEA's Guidance for the Comprehensive Evaluation of Specific Learning Disability Training through TEA Learn before being hired.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Duties involve walking, sitting, standing, in-door, and out-of-door activities and some lifting.
• Must have and maintain a level of general physical/emotional health which permits effective performance of duties.
• Regularly lifts and carries 1 - 25 pounds.
• Required high level of mental alertness and requires ability to tolerate high levels of stress.
