Associate Attorney-Civil Litigation
Gates Shields, P.A., a respected civil litigation firm with a longstanding presence in the Kansas City metro area, is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join our firm with locations in Overland Park, KS and Liberty, MO. This position will be located in the Overland Park office.
We welcome recent law school graduates, third-year law students preparing to take the Kansas or Missouri bar, and attorneys with up to three years of legal experience. Relevant experience gained during law school, including internships, clerkships, clinics, moot court, and law review is valued.
Our firm handles a diverse range of matters, including civil litigation, business law, family law, estate planning, and employment law, providing associates with the opportunity to gain broad legal experience while developing their individual areas of interest.
We are looking for a motivated, dependable attorney with strong analytical, writing, communication, and advocacy skills. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys working collaboratively and is interested in building practical legal and litigations skills through meaningful mentorship and hands-on experience early in their career.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with senior attorneys and support staff to:
- Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and discovery
- Represent clients in court appearances, depositions, and negotiations
- Maintain excellent client relationships
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in Kansas and/or Missouri, or preparing and eligible for admissions
- Recent graduates through attorneys with up to three years of legal experience are encouraged to apply
- Strong communication, research, and writing skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Professional judgment and a commitment to providing excellent client service
