General Summary:

Ensure effective laboratory environment. Demonstrates effective organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare tissue specimens through processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and mounting for microscopic examination
• Collect and process biological samples following strict laboratory protocols and aseptic techniques
• Maintain accurate documentation of all laboratory procedures, specimen tracking, and patient information
• Ensure proper handling of specimens using correct anatomy knowledge, pathology terminology, and laboratory techniques
• Perform routine quality control checks on equipment and reagents to guarantee reliable results
• Follow safety guidelines diligently, including aseptic techniques and infection control practices to prevent contamination

Requirements:

• Prior clinical laboratory experience with tissue processing or histology techniques
• Experience working in research laboratories or hospital settings preferred
• Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, and medical terminology essential for precise specimen handling
• Proficiency in laboratory procedures such as fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and slide preparation
• Hands-on experience with specimen collection methods and processing of biological samples
• Familiarity with gastrointestinal histology and grossing techniques a plus
• Strong understanding of laboratory safety standards, aseptic technique, and laboratory equipment maintenance
• Excellent attention to detail coupled with the ability to follow complex protocols accurately

Education:

Associate in Histotechnology or Bachelors in Biology/chemistry (Required)

Experience:

Required: One year of histology technical experience in a laboratory setting.

Preferred: Experience in Gastroenterology.

License/Certification:

HT or HTL (Preferred)

Equipment Operated: Standard laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Work Environment: Laboratory unit, well lighted and terperature controlled. Exposure to chemicals, communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions related to medical setting.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Varied activities including sitting, standing, lifting, turning, stooping and reaching.
