Job Summary
The Test Cell Mechanic is responsible for supporting the operation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of industrial gas turbines during post-overhaul testing in a controlled test cell environment. This role works closely with mechanical and engineering teams to validate equipment performance, identify issues, and ensure safe and efficient test execution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day gas turbine test cell operations
- Assist with turbine startup, monitoring, and shutdown procedures
- Observe and document equipment performance during test runs
- Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues that arise during testing
- Collaborate with mechanics and engineering to validate rebuild quality and performance
- Assist in identifying root causes of performance issues and recommend corrective actions
- Maintain test cell equipment, tools, and systems in safe working condition
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO)
- Maintain accurate records of test activities and findings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with gas turbines, engines, or rotating equipment, or equivalent exposure in testing, startup, or commissioning environments
- Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting capability
- Basic understanding of instrumentation and control systems preferred
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective in troubleshooting situations
Education and Experience
- 2 years of relevant hands-on experience or equivalent practical experience
- Technical or vocational training in a related field preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Ability to work in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, heat, and machinery
Work Environment
- Onsite, shop-based test cell environment
- Exposure to running equipment, noise, and varying temperatures
- This position does not involve regular travel
