- This is a 4 day per week in office position (with a flex work from home day) located in midtown Manhattan very close to all major transportation hubs.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Claims Analyst is responsible for, but not limited to analyzing, and processing claims under the applicable reinsurance treaty, performing claims audits, providing analysis to underwriters and reserving actuaries, and participate in collaborative projects in support of other areas of the company, including finance, actuarial, operations and technology. This role will assist with the preparation of management reporting on respective (legal) claims activities. In addition, the Senior Claims Analyst supports the Underwriters/Actuaries on any claims related interactions with cedents and brokers. This role also undertakes analysis and research using relevant legal tools and resources to provide preliminary insights, information and opinions on complex legal technical issues to Claims prior to seeking an official legal opinion from the company’s legal department.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Primarily responsible for the handling of Liability claims as well as other casualty and property claims arising out of (re)insurance operations.
- Ensures all handled claims are properly processed and reserved.
- Perform day-to-day claims processing activities for assigned accounts including processing claims and recoveries into the claims system, including reinstatement premium and reinstatement premium accruals in a timely and accurate manner.
- Review and approve claim payments/reserves/updates and communicate significant movements or status changes to claims management and underwriting teams as appropriate.
- Liaise with the brokers for updated information on assigned accounts and ensure that any changes are reflected in the claims system appropriately.
- Assess all loss exposures including interpretation of coverage (re)insurance) and liability analysis for the (re)insurance book of business. Including more moderately technically complex analysis.
- Compile and interpret data to assist management in tracking, analyzing, developing and preparing claim related reports.
- Conduct legal research on an as needed basis
- Act as a legal resource for other claims team members on complex claim legal matters.
- Identify trends and subjects via short writeups on these topics for use in the quarterly claims newsletter.
- Assist in the production of the quarterly claims newsletter.
- Participate in special projects or ad-hoc tasks that may be required by either internal or external parties.
- Coordinate with Claims Management, Underwriting, Actuarial and Risk Management on Large Loss Exposures.
- Monitor and inform Underwriting, Actuarial and Management of any trends within the assigned lines of business.
- Perform claim audits and produce written audit reports in a timely fashion.
- Meet with clients and brokers for purposes of maintaining industry relationships.
- Attend company sponsored training events and relevant industry conferences/meetings.
EXPERIENCE:
- A university degree preferred, or comparable relevant experience.
- A professional qualification preferrable (ACII or similar).
- At least 5 to 8 years prior relevant industry experience
- Fully proficient, has in-depth knowledge, works independently on moderate to highly complex (re)insurance coverage matters.
- Utilizes solid technical competence to achieve exemplary results and to manage and resolve issues.

- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, other relevant GAAP or regulatory reporting requirements as applicable.
- Experience with public companies and SOX 404 is advantageous
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.)
