We are seeking a full-time Aviation Technical Writer 1 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for creating reader-friendly user’s guides and installation and maintenance manuals.
Essential Functions
- Research and collect data to write pilot’s guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, maintenance manuals, and/or service documents
- Create electronic documents using word processing and desktop publishing tools
- Communicate with Design Engineers regarding product specifications and product development
- Research airframe technical characteristics to accurately document functions/features of specific aviation products
- Provide software beta testing input for Design Engineers, Program Managers, and Human Factors team
- Facilitate the rework of mechanical drawings and screen captures
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or another related technical field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Must possess experience in the aviation industry and working with and/or using avionics
- Must demonstrate proficiency using word processing tools such as Microsoft Word
- Must be detail-oriented, possess the ability to work proactively/effectively with minimal supervision, and the ability to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
- Experience and/or knowledge in electronics relevant to the essential functions of this job description
- Private Pilot Certificate or A&P Certificate
- Instrument Rating
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud Experience (InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator)
- Familiar with aviation phraseology and flight operations procedures
- Basic understanding of S1000D documentation standards
