Quality Assurance Technician

Job Overview:
The Quality Assurance Technician works with the team to ensure the quality systems are understood and are in place. The duties of a Quality Assurance Technician include the daily collection and evaluation of quality data, assessment of and processing manufacturing inspection, development, and training to team members on measurement methods, ensuring equipment is calibrated, materials used are conforming and the processes are set up in accordance with approved manufacturing requirements and inspection of incoming materials. Support the quality standard process to ensure compliance with the Gared quality standard and work with manufacturing staff to ensure inspections are implemented and maintained.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Monitor production welder qualification requirement and ensure documentation is completed.
· Review new welding procedures specifications and coordinate Class approval.
· Verify materials used in production have required documentation. Coordinate with the purchasing group to follow up with related supplier non-conforming materials.
· Inventory and monitor Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) for current calibration and maintain associated records. Determine new TMDE requirements and process validation for robust quality requirements.
· Perform daily in-progress inspections of trade work, resolve improper workmanship issues with appropriate line leads and provide feedback. Document inspections for First and Last Piece Articles and provide on the spot training.
· Develop vendor expectations documents, document discrepancies and provide input to Purchasing department to solve vendor issue for items not meeting specifications or quality standards.
· Draft quality procedures and checklist and be a resource for review of production authored procedures and ability to read blueprints and interpret for manufacturing process.
· Initiate training sessions to ensure quality is built into the processes.
· Perform quality inspections on fabricated parts by interpreting, measuring, verifying mechanical dimensions and tolerance according to blueprints using standard measuring tools and equipment.
Qualifications:
· Self-motivated, able to work alone and with others
· Able to read and use written instructions
· Must be detail oriented to ensure things are done correctly
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Good math skills to perform routine calculations with the capability to learn data analysis
techniques and understand statistical concepts
· Ability to work in a team environment and treat internal and external customers with courtesy and
professionalism
· Capable of using shop equipment with the ability to learn to run specialized fabrication and test
machines
· Ability to organize multiple tasks and focus attention to detail to ensure a high level of accuracy in
work
Education and Experience:
· Two-year technical degree is preferred
· 5 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment including metal fabrication and assembly.
· Knowledge/understanding of assembly and fabrication fixture design.
· Good Microsoft Suite Skills: Excel, Word and Outlook including competency to use other database programs.
· Experience creating, documenting, and maintaining process controls and value stream mapping.
· Working understanding of other quality systems and quality standards such as Six Sigma, Lean, etc.
Work Environment
Exposure to various noise levels can be expected, as well as work performed in proximity to moving mechanical parts.
Work Status: Full-time
Work Schedule: Typically, M-F 6:30 am -3:00 pm – overtime as needed.
