Litigation Attorney (Full-Time or Part-Time) — Remote (Colorado)
Location: Remote (monthly in-person collaboration at our Boulder, CO office)
Schedule: Full-time or part-time
About Gardner Legal Services (GLS)
Gardner Legal Services (GLS) is a growing, litigation‑focused law firm representing businesses and business owners in commercial litigation, individuals with serious personal injuries, and clients in appeals across civil, criminal, family, and probate matters. We deliver small‑firm attentiveness with big‑firm quality and leverage advances in legal technology to serve clients at a high level. We prize continuous learning and professional growth and look for attorneys who are curious, proactive, and invested in building something together as the firm scales. We pair high‑quality legal work with a remote‑first, collaborative model that offers flexibility in location and time. Our systems keep matters disciplined, responsive, and moving toward resolution.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an attorney to join our team who will work across the firm’s practice areas. You will contribute to matters from intake through resolution—drafting and arguing motions, conducting discovery and depositions, appearing at hearings/mediations, and partnering with clients to chart strategy—while working closely with the principal attorney and teammates. From day one, you’ll own substantive work with mentorship and feedback; over time, you will be trusted and rewarded with increasing responsibility and authority to manage larger portions of cases and, ultimately, whole matters. This role offers meaningful responsibility, a remote‑first, flexible‑schedule work model with monthly in-person collaboration in Boulder, and the autonomy and support to deepen your craft, learn what you don’t yet know, and help build a growing practice.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with the team to manage a litigation docket from pleading through resolution (state and, as applicable, federal).
- Draft, research, and argue motions; prepare and respond to discovery; conduct and defend depositions.
- Develop case strategy with the principal attorney; evaluate liability, damages, and settlement posture.
- Proactively identify issues, research novel questions, and propose practical, client‑focused solutions; learn unfamiliar subjects efficiently and independently.
- Prepare clients and witnesses for depositions, mediations, and hearings; participate in mediations/settlement conferences.
- Communicate proactively with clients, experts, carriers, and opposing counsel; maintain clear, timely updates.
- Use firm systems (MyCase, Google Workspace, etc.) for calendaring, tasking, document management, collaboration in shared files, timekeeping, and video meetings; appropriately leverage AI tools consistent with professional responsibility rules.
- Contribute to building playbooks, templates, and processes as GLS scales.
- Progression: Progressively assume primary responsibility for case segments (e.g., motions, discovery plans, expert coordination), with a path to first‑chair tasks commensurate with experience.
- Uphold professional, ethical, and confidentiality standards in all work.
What We’re Looking For
- Licensed Attorney: Active Colorado Bar license in good standing (or ability to obtain licensure).
- Litigation Experience: 1 years preferred.
- Excellence in Writing & Analysis: Strong legal research, drafting, and advocacy skills.
- Client-Centered Judgment: Professionalism, empathy, and practical problem‑solving.
- Digital Fluency & Remote Collaboration: Proficient with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive), shared files/version control, and common video‑meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom/Google Meet/Microsoft Teams); base familiarity with AI tools; quick to learn new software and improve workflows.
- Clear, Professional Communication: Strong written and verbal communication with clients, courts, and teammates in a virtual environment.
- Flexible, Outcome‑Driven Workstyle: Thrives in a remote‑first, largely asynchronous setting; communicates proactively; organizes work to meet deadlines without rigid hours.
- Accountability & Availability: Exercises sound judgment on when to be online; reliably meets filing/hearing deadlines, client needs, and team check‑ins.
- Growth Mindset & Learning Orientation: Eager to expand legal knowledge; seeks feedback; turns unknowns into action.
- Resourcefulness & Ownership: Comfortable figuring out answers independently; takes initiative and follows through.
- Trajectory & Leadership Potential: Seeks and earns increasing responsibility and authority; interested in managing cases and, over time, whole matters.
- Team Builder: Invested in a growing firm; contributes to building durable systems and culture.
- Location/Travel: Ability to be at our Boulder office monthly.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $70,000–$90,000 annually for full‑time; part‑time offered on a prorated basis.
- Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, and participation in a retirement plan.
- Work Model & Flexibility: Remote‑first, results‑oriented scheduling (flexible hours) with structured, monthly in-person collaboration in Boulder, CO.
- Professional Development: Ongoing feedback, mentorship, and growth opportunities consistent with GLS’s commitment to excellence.
