What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Director position at Garden Street United Methodist Church?
Overview:
The Music Director works under the direct supervision of the Pastor and is accountable to the Pastor and Board of Stewards of Garden Street United Methodist Church.
Job Purpose:
To lead, guide, inspire, and grow the music ministry of the church.
General skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance or Music Education (or equivalent)
- Choral conducting and teaching experience
- Familiarity with Church setting
- Piano proficiency (organ proficiency a plus)
- Growth and teaching mindset
- Energy and positivity
- Willingness to learn about the Methodist Church's musical faith and traditions
Primary Duties:
- Coordinate with the Pastor to set the musical direction of worship
- Lead and teach the choir in singing on Sunday service and at additional special services (i.e. Easter, Christmas, etc.). Currently choir rehearsal is held at 1:00pm on Sunday prior to worship at 2:30 pm.
- SATB choir, currently 12-14 experienced and enthusiastic singers
- Help to create a positive and energized atmosphere during worship
- Build confidence in congregational singing to help grow the choir program
- Coordinate special music performances for worship when choir is not performing
Evaluation:
A performance evaluation occurs after the first three months of employment and then yearly thereafter. The performance evaluation will be conducted by the pastor and a member of the Board of Stewards.
Compensation:
$600 a month
Expected Hours:
The set hours are Sunday 12:30-4:30pm, the rest of the hours are flexible.
