Triumph Music Coach (Fridays)
Position Title: Music CoachLocation: Triumph Teen Life Center – 2121 E College Way, Suite B, Mount Vernon, WAWork Schedule: 2:00 PM-5:00 PM
Compensation: $18.00/hour Reports to: Program Director/Executive Director
Job Summary:The Music Coach provides culturally relevant, youth-led music instruction to students in grades 6–12 at Triumph Teen Life Center. The coach leads creative sessions in podcasting, beat making, and music recording, and supports teens in preparing for public performances. They are also responsible for student recruitment, monthly documentation, and maintaining a safe, organized studio space.
Daily Program Schedule:
- 2:00PM– 3:15 PM: Recreation / Relationship-building time
- 3:15PM– 3:35PM: Build Up (group activity)
- 3:35PM – 5:00 PM: Music & Recording Session
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate hands-on sessions in podcasting, beat production, and digital music.
- Teach and explain musical concepts to teen relevant to trends and teens
- Support youth in writing, producing, and rehearsing original songs for showcases.
- Prepare teens for community performances and events.
- Classroom management skills
- Submit monthly lesson plans aligned with teen goals and learning.
- Upload at least 1-2 youth-created songs/beat/podcasts per month to the Triumph SoundCloud account.
- Complete a monthly Coach Reflection Form highlighting progress and challenges.
- Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and structured learning environment.
- Set up and break down studio equipment before and after each session.
- Participate in weekly site chores and studio clean-up.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience with youth and/or community-based arts programs
- Experience working with diverse group of teens grades 6-12
- Proficient in podcasting, music production tools, and digital audio platforms
- Strong rapport with teens; experience in inclusive instruction
- Organized and dependable; able to plan and follow through
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
- Must pass background check, complete First Aid certification, Food Handlers, Aids/bloodborne pathogens and mandated reporter training.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, bend, lift up to 25 pounds, and supervise youth for extended periods
Work Environment:
- Supervise large groups in an active environment
- Youth-focused, high-energy atmosphere
- Requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends for performances
- Noise typical of a teen center or event setting
