What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager position at Garden City Products?
We are seeking an experienced, results-driven Production Manager to lead operations at our high-precision CNC tooling shop. In this role, you will be the driving force on the shop floor, bridging the gap between digital design and final delivery. The ideal candidate brings a deep technical background in Haas CNC equipment, manual engine lathes, structural and fixture welding, CAM programming literacy, and a desire to lead manufacturing teams to achieve peak operational efficiency.
Core Pillars of Responsibility
1. Equipment, Process Knowledge & Machining Operations
- Operational Oversight: Manage daily workflows for a fleet of Haas CNC mills and lathes, as well as conventional toolroom equipment including manual engine lathes, optimizing machine utilization and reducing setup times.
- Welding & Fabrication Integration: Oversee the shop’s welding operations (including MIG/TIG welding) for fixture fabrication, tool repair, and specialized assemblies, ensuring seamless workflow integration between raw fabrication and precision machining.
- Process Standardization: Define, implement, and refine machining and welding workflows and setup procedures to maximize throughput and minimize cycle times.
2. Quality & Precision
- Tolerance & Spec Adherence: Maintain absolute adherence to complex engineering blueprints, 3D models, and strict Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements across all CNC, engine lathe, and welded components.
- Scrap Reduction: Continuously monitor production metrics to eliminate defects, troubleshoot machining or weld-alignment variances, and maintain our reputation for flawless toolmaking.
3. Maintenance & Tooling
- Asset Lifecycle Management: Establish and enforce rigorous preventative maintenance schedules for all Haas machinery, engine lathes, and welding power sources to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Tooling & Consumables Optimization: Manage shop consumables, raw materials, and precision tooling inventory; ensure the correct cutting tools, lathe inserts, and welding shielding gases/filler metals are selected and prepped for efficient runs.
4. Shop Safety & Production Leadership
- Team Supervision & Culture: Provide daily leadership, mentorship, and performance evaluations for our team of CNC machinists, engine lathe operators, and welders.
- Safety First: Enforce all OSHA standards and in-house safety protocols—including strict adherence to welding ventilation, flash protection, and manual lathe guarding guidelines - maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free shop floor.
